| Is that Jell-O sweetened with aspartame? If so, I'd avoid it since that's a known staller. You can make your own with unsweetened gelatin and Splenda (I'm sure Linda's site has a recipe or two). |

| The other thing I just wanted to mention is water. When I feel I am having cravings or feeling hungry when I really shouldn't be, I grab my water. After I drink some water, I might have a snack but feel more in control of my choices. I have a 20 oz reusable water bottle and that is with me all the time. I never leave my house without it. So many times I have been running errands and eyeing the drinks in the store...and I will remember my water is in the car. It has saved me from some mistakes. Just a thought. |

Here's the problem Ted. We follow the 2002 edition here. The 1999 book follows the 1992 Diet. There are differences between that version of the Diet and the one from 2002. The biggest difference is the amount of vegetables you may eat daily and net carb counting. When you devise a menu for yourself, you have to ask these questions while looking over the Induction Acceptable Foods List: 1. What do I like to eat on the list? 2. What would I like to try at least once on the list? 3. What is within my budget on the list? 4. What on the list can I find in my supermarket? 5. What can I and my family eat on the list? It will bust your bank account if you continue to have 2 separate meals for you and your family. Get together with your wife and family. See what they are willing to eat on the list. Typically, most families will eat the same protein, like pork chops. It's really the side dishes that will differ. So on pork chop night, instead of having stuffing, corn and mashed potatoes, the menu can look like this: pork chops, broccoli, salad, and mashed potatoes. You can have the pork chops and the veg. The family can have the pork chops, veg and starch. Two separate meals aren't being cooked nor bought. It saves money.

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | I also have a family of 5...I have a 7, 12, and 13 year old....I tend to eat a few eggs and either bacon or LC sausage for breakfast, sometimes if I feel energetic I will make an omelet. For Lunch, I also like salad, but try to get by with only 2 cups of salad and add in some spinach if possible and then top with your meats and some cheese, maybe a boiled egg cut up on top with some blue cheese or ranch. For dinner, I do like everyone suggests...its a bit easier on the budget to make casseroles and such for dinner but if I do that I will just pull some ground beef out and saute it with cabbage and have that with another veggie that the rest of the family will eat. You will be doing them a favor if you start them now eating vegies so that they don't end up like you in the future. (i keep telling myself this too! rofl) If you need a snack, I sometimes take a can of green beans and mix with mayo and pepper. Another thing I snack on is any meats that are left over from day before. I usually buy bulk on meats and bacon and such at costco's and then cook some ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze some for future use. You can microwave them to heat them up! However, over half of your carbs for the day should be veggies! Just aim for at least half and you should be ok...remember to minus the fiber from the carbs for your net carbs and I use fitday to help with that. Also, watch out for the sodium intake as that will give you a rough time and that low carb ice cream is not going to let you lose weight, sorry to say...try sugar free jello stirred up with some whipped heavy cream as a rare treat! Good luck to you!
