Question When would you stop induction?

And more to the next phase? I started 5/01/2009 - so I am on day 10. With so much to lose, I was thinking of staying on until atleast the end of May. What do you suggest is best?

Default Re: When would you stop induction?

I have a whole lot to lose too, but I am climbing the rungs...I went into this knowing that this would be a forever change for me. I need to progress thru the rungs so that I don't say 'I can't do this forever' & quit because there is no point in losing the weight knowing I can't keep it off (been there, done that). I consider this an exercise in learning what I can and can't eat-forever. Climbing the rungs, I am learing that, one food at a time.

I have to admit, I was tempted to stay on induction, to try to lose the weight fast, but whenever I feel that way, I remind myself of all of the other diets I have tried where I did the exact same thing - self-denial until I couldn't stand it anymore & I quit. I enjoyed induction, I wasn't hungry, the food was good, I lost weight - but I didn't learn much about how to make Atlins a WOE for LIFE. I am doing that now, and the future is looking rosy indeed.

I could see doing induction for a couple extra weeks, but I would really suggest climbing the rungs - some people lose better on OWL 1 than on extended induction.

I realize very much that this is a lifetime change and I am glad to stick to it, I just would like very much to reach my goal faster and from what I read and the amount I need to lose I think I should stay the two extra weeks. I got past the OH MY GOD, fresh bread, pizza, ice cream and cake temptation and can easily say even when alone I am not cheating. I am not quitting since I did Atkins for two months before and lost 40 pounds then abruptly stopped and know what happens when you skip phases.

Do you think I should stay two weeks more?

I think you've gotta feel it out.

For me... I imagine myself staying on induction untill I drop below 270. But I'm just taking it one day at a time and seeing how it goes. If it suddenly seems like it's time to move into OWL, I will... even if I haven't lost as much as I imagine.

FwL is right. You are the one that has to decide whether you want to move to OWL immediately after the first two weeks or to do another two weeks of Induction. This should be done after you've read/re-read Chapter 13 in the book. It is impossible to say, for any of us or even for you, how your body would react to more Induction compared to how it would react to OWL Rung 1. What we have seen at ADBB is that people who do not have a high metabolic resistance or do not have a lot to lose typically experience a pause in their weight loss after the second week, which is broken when progressing to OWL.

With 12 lbs lost in 10 days, your degree of metabolic resistance is low. However, you have about 88 lbs left to lose. If you feel comfortable doing Induction for another two weeks, I'd say go for it. If your weight loss stalls, you can always move to OWL.

BTW, congratulations for the 12 lbs!

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

I agree with the posters who indicate that this is a personal decision. For me, I read DANDR and the advice on whether it was time to OWL or not. For me, it was easier to stay on Induction adding a few more veggies. Because I had so much to lose when I began, I felt good, I was not bored or craving foods, it worked for me.
