Default Just need some support

I have done this before and once I convinced myself to do it, I did it and in a BIG way. I lost 100lbs in 9 months and kept it off for 5 years. Then I got pregnant, the pregnancy went ok, i gained a little more than I wanted to but not a major issue but after I had him it has been such a struggle. I do good for a few days then Im sooo hungry I binge ALL DAY LONG on everything and anything I can find. I try so hard to stick to my veggies and most of the time I do but Im eating all day, it feels I dont ever stop and as soon as Im done eating Im hungry again. Even when I was 250 lbs I was NEVER this hungry. I feel like a food junkie, I try and try and something just takes over and Im so hungry I feel sick to my stomach. Every time I try to work out my son cries for me to pick him up. I love to snuggle him but its very frustrating. He is 3 months old and Im the same weight I was when he was born. ( I lost 20 lbs then gained 25 then lost 5- you know the routine). I am so depressed every time I look in the mirror I want to cry!

Are you nursing? That will affect any advice we can give, as nursing mothers aren't advised to do weight loss phases of Atkins. And nursing would explain your great hunger.

But exercising with a baby, while challenging, is doable. You can hold the baby and do squats, bet he'll love it! You can get very good walks in with the baby in a stroller. Have a baby swing? invest in one if not. It will lull the baby off to la'la land long enough for you to exercise.

The good thing is, you KNOW Atkins works. Let us know about the nursing thing and we'll go from there, we are here for ya!

Im no longer nursing. i didnt have enough milk for him, also i was in such a state of post partum depression that i had to go on prozac, which i HATE and i think may contribute to my hunger but every time i try to go off it i spiral back into deep depression. I have 2 baby swings as a matter of fact but lately he wants no part of that, his baby bouncer, or anything else but mommy. thank you for the comment about squats, ill try that. i have a treadmill and an elyptical and i keep trying to get on and no luck so far. id love to take him for a walk but living in florida is a challenge this time of year. its been so hot i think thats why hes been so cranky. ive been trying to put him in the pool and do push ups and whatnot for the 5 minutes hes happy. i figure a little is better than nothing. he likes the vacuum so when i vaccuum i make it an all day affair. but is there anything with my diet i should really eat alot of or stay away from? ive done the obvious, potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. i love meat and veggies, but they havent been filling me. ive only lost 1 1/2 lbs in the last week and have been completely faithful. the last time i lost 30 lbs in 3 weeks, i dont understand and am so frustrated.

Do you have a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. It is very motivating and also a great source for how you should go about doing this.

I suggest forgetting 5 years ago. It sounds like that success is holding you back because you have not adjusted to who you are now. Having kids changes everyting - also how your body will react to foods and your metabolism. So I suggest - shake it off and start off new and fresh.

And I suggest do it by the book. Follow the rules of induction to a T and do not use any artificial sweeteners (or short cuts)

As for exercise. Here were I live the community gym has child care. It is not too expensive and many moms take advantage of it during the day. Also my community gym has "mommy" classes. Step and walking classes just for mothers and they bring their kids to it. It is quite fun to watch. And it is a great place to socialize and meet other mothers. Try to find out if there are similar programs in your neighbourhood.

If you do not have the book (I really recommend getting it) Here are the rules of induction for you

hi cynrose -- welcome back - you know this plan works so you need to get your head back in the right place and make sure nothing gets in the way of getting your health back! I was diagnosed with depression after my 17 year old step-daughter left our home with the police in tow because she wasn't being treated right. None of it was true but no one bothered to listen to her dad and I. All I did for 6 months was eat and cry sitting in a corner on the floor so believe me I understand depression! I did get help and pills to help my moods stabilize and sleeping pills for 7 days so I could start sleeping nights instead of 20 minutes here and 15 minutes there. I was also able to get off the medication and in January of this year I decided to take my health back in my own hands (after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last summer) and can't imagine any other way of living my life.

Do you have stairs anywhere in your home? Stairs are a wonderful exercise that you can do with your son, how about dancing -- all kids love to dance around the house, put him on your stomach and do leg lifts or sit ups - he becomes extra resistance to help you tone up. Mom is right about the baby swing they are lifesavers! If you can't afford one check garage sales, online swap forums, friends who have had babies and no longer need theirs!

There is a depression thread that might be useful to you.
Depression - Atkins Diet. Good luck to you! If you need anything all you have to do is ask!

You might be able to find a neighbor kid who would be willing to come over and watch the baby for 45 minutes, with you right there it doesn't even have to be an older experienced child, a 12 year old who likes babies could be paid $3 to watch him for a while, carry him around and entertain him, giving you time to do a DVD or something. I had one son who had to be held all the time, one of the 'kangaroo pouches' saved my sanity and allowed me to get household chores done, I don't recall using it for exercise but it would certainly be possible to dance with it!

Believe that you can lose weight, and be fit. That is half the battle right there. You won't do it overnight, but if you start.. then you are on your way. Congratulations on your new son, wish you both lots of joy and health and laughter!

Play music, by the way.. even when you are not exercising. Music is a good mood elevator, you don't have to do anything special, just turn it on. If you haven't tried programming your own favorites at pandora.com I highly recommend it. You obviously have a computer so there is access to your own favorite tunes, for free!

You're not really HUNGRY, sounds to me like you are having anxiety attacks, probably due to stress.

Maybe you should look into that, just to rule it out...

I have a hard time telling if I'm really hungry sometimes...After I realized (years ago) that I eat emotionally, I started telling myself not to eat unless I was hungry - sounds like a good idea right? Somehow I managed to mess that up so that I THINK I feel hungry when I really just WANT TO EAT. I actually have to stop & think about it - am I really hungry, or is mind playing tricks on me? I can usually tell, but it takes a few minutes of conscious thought.

Cynrose, are you still around? Are you eating enough protein? Can you post a menu? If you stick with Atkins, by the book, for a few days, your hunger will go away. There is no reason to go hungry on Atkins, just eat some meat or cheese (within limits) if you are truly hungry.

I agree with liv - forget about 5 years ago - get the book & do the WOE like it was the first time.

I have four kids so I know what it's like to take care of a crying baby and trying to workout. My advice is get a jogging stroller and walk walk walk. Don't just order any stroller go to babies r us and pick one outand push it around the store for a few minutes. I have the baby trend one and I love it. Last summer I started out walking up and down my road every morning and after a few months I worked my way up to two miles m-f. With a diet (not this one) and walking I lost 30 pounds(then stopped and gained 15 back). Or if you dont want to buy a new stroller then get a carrier a good sturdy one and strap that baby on and walk. I like to go first thing in the morning when the sun isn't beaming down and heating me to death lol.
