| If you want to be successful with Atkins and reap all of the benefits as well as lose weight, then treat the book as your bible. |

| Laura, my neighbor is a nurse in the cardiac unit at one of our major hospitals here. There are 13 of the cardiac nurses using the Atkins plan now, they are doing remarkable and say they have more energy and stamina for their long shifts now than they did before. During their lunches they walk the halls for exercise instead of sitting in the lunchroom the entire time - that way they get extended periods of walking instead of from their nursing station to a room (which is only a few feet in the unit. Since my neighbor is pregnant now she's on the maintenance program - she is doing better with this pregnancy than 3 years ago with her first one and says she's less tired and swollen in her hands and legs. There is a lot of misinformation out there about Atkins -- we are more than meat, eggs, cheese and cream - I eat more veggies now than I have ever eaten in my life and I am loving all the new foods I make from the recipe sections. I wish you the best of luck. After your 64 ounces you can have the following: Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label) Club soda Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content) Decaffeinated coffee or tea* Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (causes weight stall in many people) Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame) Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added) Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons *Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
