I know that many here say coffee is best not taken during induction. What I'm about to say might not be too popular but here goes ...

People point out the effect coffee may have, may being the key word here, on blood sugar/glucose levels. While they are accurate about the effect ... no one seems to mention that this is true for Type II Diabetics, or those prone to develop type II diabetes, according to the studies. In one study sedentary people were also included. The effect, tho not as pronounced, was evident in this group as well.
This is likely why some people find that coffee effects their weight loss and why others see no effect. It also points out how important that visit to the MD before starting any diet is important. If you know your glucose status when going into this diet .. you will have a better idea if coffee is going to be an issue for you.

I'm not sure what your point is... the people that I know that can't drink coffee, are NOT diabetic. With carefully controlled monitoring, they were able to trace their troubles back to the coffee. One person, in particular, still can't have coffee, even though she reached goal and had excellent results on her blood work.

This is going to be true with any food... each of us has different tolerances, whether we're diabetic or not.

Mitzi...your friend who still can not have coffee. I am curious as to why? Does it lead to weight gain? I apologize if I am too personal, purely curious especially since I enjuoy coffee and am not sure whether I will need to give it up or not.

It makes her ravenously hungry, and causes mood swings. In others, it's just the hunger thing, and in some, it's a stall of weight loss.

I like coffee, too. Oddly enough, I was never a coffee drinker (ever!) until I reached goal, so I can't comment on how it affects me with regard to stalling. I do know that it doesn't make me hungry, though. And I only drink it first thing in the morning.

thats good to know...coffee doesn't make me hungry. its actually such a part of who i am...i always have a cup of coffee nearby. being an early childhood director and mom of 2 i very rarely drink a whole cup at a time and never when it is actually hot! somehow though its calming to me just to have the cup...sad i know it will be interesting to me after this week of doing everything else right if i feel i need to give it up.
