Default carb counter, heavy cream, etc.

hi all,

i'm on my 6th day of induction, and i would say i'm happy with the way things are going....i havent weighed myself YET, since i started. well only because i dont wanna pressure myself this early..as long as i know i am okay and best of all, NO SUGAR cravings at all!!! i would probably weight myself after a week though...

anyway, sorry for the intro. im just too happy i cant believe i would even last a day not eating my usual desserts. now on to my questions:

1. i bought the book online, but it hasnt arrived yet so i have to ask - you see, i'm having a hard time 'measuring my veggies". when you say 2 cups of salad veggies - say for example 'lettuce', do you guys just stuff them loosely in a measuring cup? or do you have a special scale that you use to weigh it accurately? in short, i want to know if i should invest in a weighing scale? if so, can someone please suggest a particular brand, where to buy it, and most especially, WHAT FEATURES should this weighing scale have? how about the CARB COUNTER, which i have read about in a number of posts here? sorry for the ignorant question, but, is this in the form of a book? or is there some sort of a gadget that does this? what exactly does this do?

2. we are allowed 3/4 cup of unsweetened heavy cream a day, right? can i ask how we count the carb content? should i just look at the carton and do the math? (i was wondering if there's a rule like that of an egg, whereas, 1 egg= 1 net carb; or splenda where as 1 packet=1 net carb)?

thanks!!!!

ooopps, correction to my post above - 3 oz unsweetened heavy cream, instead of 3/4 cup which i have erroneously typed.

The lettuce should be "loosely packed". Going by cups is okay. You won't be wrong by too much if you just add a few more lettuce leafs. Also check the "Low Carb Cooking Lessons" forum---there's a thread where not2late explains how you should measure foods properly.

There is a carb counter in the book. It's basically a list that tells you how many carbs are in a certain amount of food (veggie, cheese, etc.). I never used that carb counter though. What I've used since I started is CalorieKing, FitDay, DailyPlate and NutritionData.

We are allowed only 2-3 tablespoons in the "beverages" section. You can have 3 oz as a "Special Category Foods" (3 oz of heavy cream OR 1 oz of sour cream), but in these are foods that sometimes slow down or stall weight loss for some people, so you should stop having them if your weight loss seems to be affected by them.

Yes. For cream just check the carb count on the carton. There is no rule.

Good for you for not weighing yet. How do your clothes feel? Is your appetite under control? When you get the book and evaluate your 14-day Induction results, don't forget to answer the questions in Chapters 12-13 and not judge your results simply by the amount of weight lost.

How's the exercise part going?

Hi! I'm on day 9 and equally thrilled! No appetite, amazing energy level. Good for you for avoiding the scale, I'm kind of obsessed!

Yup, 3 oz of heavy cream is right

Good luck!

Remember the 3 ounces of cream is in the Special category list
Quote:

Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.
where you can choose ONE of these options to add now and again (I bolded the or in my quote above which many people miss and think they can have all of these options on the same day)

The regular daily amount of cream is 2-3 tablespoons under the beverages section of the induction list.

Oops! Thanks for adding that, Elizellen. Not quoting the whole sentence gave a completely different meaning to what I've wrote.
