| I wouldn't worry about it for the following reasons: 1. Dr. A. didn't say to worry about the carb counts. Nor did he suggest moderation. All he said was to make sure there's no added sugar. 2. These carbs likely do not impact blood sugar very much, if at all. 3. The amount used is usually well less than the tsp. serving size. 4. Spices are necessary to help many of us eat things we normally otherwise would not eat on this plan, so they're kind of necessary for many of us. 5. It's a little over the top to count carbs in spices in the grand scheme of things. I'd just ignore the carb counts and just use common sense... My .02

| Thanks so much....I was thinking about all the herbs & spices I had already used and pretty much picked all my days eating apart!! I'm glad I'm okay. I want to make sure I'm doing things right - so far I've had a clean induction. I'm on day 11 and have lost about 7 lbs so far - Thanks so much for the quick reply too!!

| Dr. Atkins suggested counting 1carb/tsp for spices and 1carb/2tbsp for herbs. These are the notes I put on the "acceptable foods for induction" list on my fridge: All spices (1tsp-1.0) are allowed but only if they contain no added sugar. Herbs (2tbsp-1.0) are approved, too: garlic, sage, oregano, pepper, dill, cilantro, cayenne pepper, basil, rosemary, ginger, tarragon, thyme
