| It sounds as if you are off to a good start ![]() As for the 'eating cholesterol' thing, our bodies make most of their cholesterol regardless of what we eat, so eating foods containing cholesterol cannot make very much difference

| I am not totally convinced. I will let you know when I get my cholesterol chec ked in a couple of months. Here's something for you think about...If our body makes cholesterol which is true..why does the hdl and ldl ratios change when we exercise and cut out saturated fats? I know that I am living proof of that. When I do nothing or eat like a maniac, do not excersise my hdl and ldl are in the gutter. |

| According to studies by Stanford, the body's cholesterol producing mechanism is now thought to be directly linked to our Insulin response. Sooo, when you eat a high carb diet and throw your body's natural Insulin response into overdrive, you also cause your body to produce more cholesterol. My DH is a case in point. In his 20s (he is almost 50 now) his cholesterol was high. The doctor put him on a strict diet to reduce it. He NEVER ONCE cheated. In fact he ate even fewer eggs and other cholesterol foods than was allowed. But the diet of wisdom at the time gave him lots of starches and sugars in place of the fats. Three months later, his cholesterol had skyrocketed even though his diet was pretty cholesterol free. NOW on the other hand you have me. My cholesterol was never horrible but it was up to 189. My LDL was high and my HDL was very low when I started. But after 5 years of bacon and eggs and cheese and low carb living, my Cholesterol is now 149, HDL 70 and LDL 35 (I am working on that one). My triglycerides are 40! I credit the banishment of sugar almost completely from my diet and regular exercise. I eat 2 eggs abd 2 strips of bacon almost daily. I eat salads with creamy dressings, avocado, shrimp, steak, cheese daily. I drink cream or half and half in my coffee. (I haven't given that up completely but do drink mostly decaf now). I don't have proof of why I have these good numbers, but the only changes I have made were going on Atkins and exercising so that must be it. I am not on any meds at all except my vitamins and glucosamine for my knees. One caution--many folks see a spike in cholesterol about 3 months in. So wait for six months before testing so that you don't panic while your body revolts against the sugars being gone. |

| Today is day four for me and I have had zero cravings since day one and I feel really great. I was reading on the cholesterol thing and it said that your body will manufacture less in response to a greater dietary intake. I have always had pretty good cholesterol so I don't worry about it but I attribute that to exercise. |
