Default Psyllium Husk

Since being on Atkins I have been a tad bit constipated (TMI, yea i know). I just bought some psyllium fiber and mixed it with plenty water. I wish i had of known how this was gonna turn out. It kept getting really thick and just cant seem to get it down. Its in powder form. Can anyone give me a few tips on how to use this stuff other than the unbearable way of mixing it with water?

I am not taking psyllium husks anymore, but when I did when I began Atkins, I just sprinkled it in the dry form on food like eggs, hamburger, chicken, fish, mixed it with salad dressing, my packet of tuna fish. It is much easier to spread it out over the day than to try to take it the way you are trying to ... too much like bad medicine that way!

I'd put it on top of food like Irish said....I use flax seed and make a cookie out of it, it's tastier!!

I used to mix mine with the mayo I added to chopped celery for a snack. Never could manage to drink it in water without gagging

There is a recipe somewhere here for pancakes made with psyllium husks, if I can find the thread I will post a link to it.

Finally found it!

mix it all together and dump into a hot ( not too hot or it will burn) skillet that has melted butter in it. Spread it out to the size of a dinner plate (or do in 2 smaller batches so it isn't too thick). cook till golden on one side then flip.

toss onto plate and serve with desired topping.
I imagine it would be best to halve the recipe in order not to overdo the psyllium

Thank you for that recipe link, Georgiana, I hadn't noticed it before.

Here is another recipe that uses psyllium husks that is NOT induction-legal but would be suitable for when you reach the 3rd OWL rung.
I found it on a recipe site a long time ago and saved it to my recipes database but don't have the link to it.

1/4 cup to 1/2 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup water
2 Tbsp melted butter
4 tsp vanilla extract
4 tsp liquid sweetener (= sweetness of 16 tsp sugar)

Method
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Oil a cookie sheet.
Mix the dry ingredients. Mix the wet ingredients. Add the wet to the dry and mix thoroughly.
Form the dough into 4 balls. Flatten each (about the size of a burger patty) and divide into 8 wedges.
Place each wedge on the oiled cookie sheet and flatten to 1/4 inch or less.
Take a clear plastic lid about 1-1/2 inch in diameter with a 1/4 inch rim and place it over the wedge and press down to make into rounds, with the middle a bit thinner.
If the dough sticks to the plastic, brush it with a little oil. The dough doesn't spread while baking so you can place them close together.
Bake for 30 minutes until crisp.

My Recipe:

Take two 12 oz. glasses of water.
Fill one glass with 6 oz. water, the other with 10 ounces.
Make sure the water is at room temperature.
Mix one tablespoon of psyllium husk in 6 oz. water, stir vigorously, while pinching nose.
Immediately drink mixture in one gulp, while simultaneously pinching nose, before mixture thickens.
Immediately after consuming mixture, drink (chase) the 10 oz. glass of water in one gulp.
Repeat during the day up to two times.
Wait 12-24 hours then eureka.

Should be if you stick to the cream limits for the rest of the day, also check that the vanilla extract does not contain alcohol.
