Default Pork burger???

This just sounds gross to me. Has anyone ever had a pork burger, the meat thawing, and I am about to cook them along with a salad. This is extra lean pork and says it is a healthy alternative to hamburger, but I just found it in my freezer. HAHA!

I've made pork patties before. But you really should avoid the "extra lean" pork at all cost. See, pork needs to be thoroughly cooked. So it can become dry without the extra fat to keep it juicy.

Besides, pork fat is mainly monounsaturated fat---the same type of fat found in olive oil. So there really isn't a need to buy it extra lean.

Ground pork makes a fine burger. I usually add a little garlic and onion powders and some black pepper to give it some flavor. Linda's low carb has a lot of ground pork recipes too like these potsticker patties.

I think my neighbors gave it to us, I didn't buy it. Just found it in the freezer. Well it will have to do for tonight.

I'm not sure what kind of ground pork Sweetz has but the type I see in the grocery has plenty of fat (sort of like ground chuck). I usually cook my pork patties on the George Foreman grill and lots of fat drips out.

I don't really know why they call it extra lean...maybe so the low-fat masses will buy it? Not sure but it's nothing like how ground pork tenderloin would be.

Thanks for the info on pork fat...didn't know that.

While I've never had pork burgers before, I have had pork in place of ground beef in my spaghetti, tastes pretty good. I suppose it could be used in place of any ground beef/chicken/turkey recipe.

At my grocery store, it's impossible to buy regular or medium ground beef - it's all lean or extra lean. Though if I head to wal-mart I can get regular in a tube. I have to wonder if the extra lean is just what lean used to be and lean is now what medium used to be.

I make spicy Thai burgers out of ground pork and they are great. Yum! I think I'll pull out some ground pork and make some tomorrow. I grind my own pork from a Boston butt roast, so it is well marbled and the meat stays moist and juicy.
