Default This "flu" can definitely happen

I'm on my third day. I went into ketosis after a day (24 hours), if that makes any difference to what happened today. I went out for a walk, which I was accustomed to doing even before I started Induction. I could walk no more than a block before I had to sit down and rest. Got up, walked another block, had to sit down. Got up, walked another block, had to sit down. Before I started Induction could walk 2-3 miles easily at a fast clip.

I read in the FAQs that the worse the Induction flu symptoms, the more one can benefit from this new way of eating. But I figured that since I went into ketosis so quickly that my physical system maybe wasn't terribly far from how it would be on the Atkins approach, but there may be no correlation.

I am following the Induction rules.

I knew that some fatigue could happen, but I am very surprised at the magnitude of the weakness I am experiencing. I'm hoping that this lets up. Has anyone else not been able to walk a block during the Induction phase or is this just off the scale in terms of the "flu"?

Hola Pau,
Por lo menos no me duele la cabeza. (I'm sure I didn't say that correctly, I am a beginning learner of Spanish, teaching myself. No lo hablo bien)

I just have this incredible weakness that is taking me by surprise.

your muscle have to stock up on fatty acids for energy and build more mitochoindria for fat burning and they need to stock up on the chemicals that transport the fatty acids throughout the cytoplasm and mitochondria to creat all those ATP molecules you need to power those muscles on your walk. You have as they say hit the wall because your body didn't switch to fat burning soon enough in response to the signals your muscles were sending. it will pass. make sure you are taking your vits ans you might want to look into some AcetyleL carnintine as discussed in teh supplement section of the board for the moving of those fatty acids.

Happy low carbing.

Thanks, Desertthorn. I'm looking forward to popping with energy. This degree of fatigue just threw me for a loop, really alarmed me.

And I DO play some fine tunes on my old fiddle. Great quote! But I'll have to wait until I have more energy to be able to produce enough wind to play my flute, though. No kidding! LOL!

- Carmen - two years over fifty and feeling just fine otherwise.

Okayyy. That makes sense, the physiology of it. I appreciate the explanation. And, in vernacular, "hit the wall" describes the feeling of what happened extremely well. I am taking my vitamins but will also look into the Acetylel carnitine. Thanks!

I may be deficient in it as I have eaten red meat maybe 4-6 times in the last year. I was planning to add some red meat to my diet in shifting to the Atkins WOE, but had not done that yet (as I am only three days into the approach). Since I don't plan to ever consume a huge amount of red meat (just enough to add a little variety for my palate) even following the Atkins WOE, this supplement may be something I could use. I'll definitely keep it in mind, monitoring how I feel. Thanks so much.
