Default Mayo Question

Hi,
Starting Induction Day 1 today. I think I read as much as I could, but still have a ? about mayo before I go to the store today.. Is regular mayo like Hellman's ok? I don't have a label to read so I am not sure how much sugar it has and if it is allowed. What do you all suggest for mayo? Thanks.

The Hellman's in Canada must be different to the Hellman's in the UK because ours has sugarin the list of ingredients. Can't be much though, o.2g per 15 ml. Could add up if you eat a lot though. I make my own mayo, it's very, very easy and tastes nicer, probably cheaper as well.

There is sugar in ours also -- but it is down in the ingredients list and doesn't seem to bother us. If you want to there are recipes for homemade mayo you can make yourself. I don't bother - I use the prepared Hellmans!

Mayo is one of those pick-yer-battles kinds of foods. Most have sugar somewhere on the list, but usually far down enough not to cause any problems. Trader Joe's mayo has no sugar at all.

Hellman's (Best Foods) is probably one of the few prepared things I still buy. Just LOVE it and have never been able to duplicate the flavor with a homemade mayo.

For me, Hellman's mayo is non-negotiable...it's either Hellman's or do without. (which is a sad thought)

I'm confused here, I read the book twice and didn't see any mention about mayo in the induction chapter. But reading the forum I see many of you
eating mayo. How much are we allowed during induction? I am not a big mayo eater (I eat it mostly with tuna salad when I do) but having it on the list of "can eat" could be useful.

Any clear response welcomed

Mayo should, theoretically, be simply oil, egg yolks, some lemon juice or vinegar, and salt and pepper, if you like (I don't add salt, nor pepper). All these ingredients are on the acceptable foods list, so mayo is "legal".

The mayo you buy at the grocery store often has sugar added to it (plus other things, but none of them carby). The amount of sugar is tiny and it does not bother most people. I have to make my own mayo, but I'm not sure it's the sugar that does not agree with me or some of the other ingredients.

By the way, the mayo I make at home has about the same carb count as Hellman's, 0.23 carbs per tablespoon.

In the US and Canada (not sure about Canada), the food labeling policies say that if there is less than 0.5 carbs per serving, the carbs can be listed as zero. In the UK, and Europe in general, they list the exact amount of carbs even if it is below 0.5 g. So, note for Americans and Canadians: even though Hellman's Mayo is labeled as having no carbs, the carbs are negligible only in 1 tbsp (a serving). But eggs have carbs, lemon juice and vinegar have some carbs, and sugar.... well, that's clear. So if you eat more than 1 tbsp of mayo, the carbs will add up and the amount won't be negligible anymore. I'd trust the guys in Europe and count 1 tbsp as 0.2 net carbs.
