Default Peanut Butter and sugar question

I have a question about carbs listed on nutrition labels.

If the total carbohydrates lists 2 grams per tablespoon, but below there is 1 gram of sugar, how many net carbs will that be?

I also have been eating pepperoni sticks about 2 to 3 a day, which list 1 carb per stick, but below they also have 1 gram of sugar. How many net carbs will that be?

should the sugar label always read 0 when in the induction phase?

The ingredients should not have "sugar" listed, period. If the nutrition label has some sugar amount, but sugar isn't one of the listed ingredients, that means there is naturally occuring sugar, which is the case for some foods. You need to only eat things on the Acceptable Food List for Induction. This means you need to read ingredients lists for everything you eat, and make sure every ingredient is "legal." Are you eating peanut butter? Because if so, you should stop immediately until the appropriate rung of OWL (On-going Weight Loss).

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Peanut Butter is a Rung 3 food -- not induction. Read and make a copy of the list above - that is the ONLY foods you should be eating during induction.

You should also be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces PURE water (nothing added) daily, exercising and taking a multivitamin daily.

We follow the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) book - you should have a copy to read and refer to during your weight loss progress.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

I have been going pretty hardcore up until the realization that sugar is in two of the items i have consumed. Probably about 3 grams of sugar in total yesterday, i think im still in ketosis though, hopefully.

As for greens, i have been consuming 1 stalk of celery per day, half a cucumber a day and 2 cups of spring mix. then alot of meat and eggs.

I do drink alot of water most of it however is carbonated is that ok?

On day 3 and im down 3lbs so far, this is my second time doing this. im opnly looking to lose 30lbs, so here we go.

Hard core would be to follow the rules to a T.
Peanut butter is not hard core (allowed later)
Sorry to tell you this. I love that stuff too. Which is why I am keeping away from it.

"not hardcore" hence the purpose of my question, it takes time to get familiar with everything, which is why we have discussion boards. It hasn't deterred me one bit, it was just an error, not a conscious setback.

I agree 100%. Most people do some thing wrong in the beginning. Plenty of time to reset. Remember to follow the allowed list for eating. And only eat from that list - no exception.

The Acceptable Foods List, the Induction Rules, and other things some people might find minor annoyances are there for a specific reason: Dr. Atkins found that these things ensured success on his diet.

There are many misconceptions about the Atkins Diet. Over the years, I've heard that Atkins is eating only meat, eggs and cheese or that Atkins is eating anything as long as you don't eat more than 20 net carbs. These diets aren't Atkins: they are Fake-kins.

Fake-kins are usually done by people who haven't taken the time to read the Atkins book before they start the Atkins diet. Going on Atkins or South Beach or Ornish or Pritikin without reading the books is like installing a baby's car seat without reading the installation instruction. So they blindly stumble along doing a Fake-kins then come here and get offended when we tell them what Atkins really is.

So do yourself a favor, read the book, then start the diet. Most people wouldn't install their child's car safety seat without reading the instructions because their child's health/safety depends on proper installment: doing a weight loss diet properly ensures safety as well.

I have done the Atkins before, i lost 20 lbs in about 3 weeks. I made errors along the way but at the same token i still had personal success, i will buy the book but to suggest you should only start this diet after you have read it, is ridiculous. the more you know sometimes can be your downfall, i'm sticking with the basics, learning what i don't know from this great board, and the people on it. I appreciate the fast feedback guys, really.

Is carbonated water okay to drink?

as far as cardio training goes, does it increase the speed of weight loss?

Appreciate the feedback

Carbonated water is OK. Make sure you drink plenty of water.

Well cardio is good for your health and for your well being and it will not hinder your weightloss.

Why are you in such a hurry? Sometimes things we do slowly and with lots of thought will have a much more long time effect.
