Default When Cheese Goes Metric

Sorry, I just want to make absolutely sure I have this right because I do not want to blow my induction.

We're allowed 3 - 4 ounces of cheese, yes? Which equates to approximately 100 grams? I'm asking because looking at a 400g package of cheese, 100 grams of cheese seems like a huge amount to me. Like, mass wise - that's a big hunk of cheese!

Thanks

1 ounce = 28 grams. So 3-4 ounces of cheese is about 84-140 grams.

Default Re: When Cheese Goes Metric

that's 3-4 oz of cheese a day - so if you take your 400g of cheese and cut it into 4 chunks, that would be one days worth...may make it look more realistic.

Plus not necessary to eat all, it's just what you are allowed.

Where I live, it's nothing...they call us Cheeseheads!

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

I cut it into quarters and a 100g daily allowance still looked like a lot of cheese to me. I think I've been grossly over-estimating the amount of cheese I've been eating on FitDay. Still, better to over estimate than under!

Note to self: WEIGH EVERYTHING.

Yes, as has been said, the 3-4 ounces is a maximum amount per day, not a requirement

When I started Atkins I divided the 400 gram block of cheese into 4 chunks then each day split that into 4 pieces so I could easily account for what I had eaten. Before long I was easily able to judge a one ounce piece without doing this, but do weigh it now and again to make sure I am not underestimating

I found it too easy to eat over the maximum if I snacked on it though, and nowadays seldom use cheese as a snack but grate it as a garnish or use in recipes.

I usually buy a strong 'mature' cheddar as it has more flavour or use block parmesan - one ounce of finely grated parmesan seems like a huge pile and gives a lot of flavour to a quiche etc.
