Question *confused*

I have some questions as I'm completely confused. I have the Atkins book from 1992 and some of the things it says are different from what I've read online.

My book says green (string) beans are allowed on induction, but online I've read that they're not? But peas are?

Is cottage cheese allowed on induction or no?

In the book he lists meats (fish and fowl included), cheeses and eggs as "free foods." Does that mean I can eat them whenever I'm hungry and not count the carbs? And in the book I don't see anywhere about a 4oz limit on cheese. . .

Can you use extracts to flavor foods on induction since it contains alcohol?

I'm sure there's more questions I don't remember!

On this board, we go by Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 edition. I don't know what is in the 1992 book.Dr. Atkins refined his diet over the years, so there are differences between the earlier and later editions of his books. Since Dr. Atkins' death, Atkins nutritional corporation has changed the diet to allow more of its products - which accounts for the differences on Atkins.com vs the books Dr. Atkins wrote.

DANDR 2002 is the last book written by Dr. Atkins before his death - it is the most up-to-date version of the diet that Dr. Atkins approved of...

Yyou will need to decide for yourself which version you want to follow, but be aware that all of the information/advice on this site is based on DANDR '02.

green/string beans are allowed, I belive cottage cheese is a no(at least for induction), and yes you can eat all the meats, chicken, fih, etc. you want but don't over eat...and cheese is limited to 2-3 oz's (about 2-3 slices) a day.

If by "online" you mean the current corporate Atkins site, ignore that. They'll also tell you you can eat shakes and bars - but according to the 2002 "bible" that would not be allowed.

You need to eat a total of three cups of vegetables a day (no more, no less) - 2 from salad, one for other. Green beans are "other" so you can eat one cup of those per day. Peas are not on the list, so no.

Quote:
Is cottage cheese allowed on induction or no?
No. Hard cheese only - cheddar, colby, edam, mozerella, etc. You can eat 3 - 4 ounces a day.

Quote:

There are no carbs in meat, which is why you can go to town on bacon, steak, chicken with skin, lobster, salmon, shrimp, etc. There are no carbs to count.

Quote:
And in the book I don't see anywhere about a 4oz limit on cheese...
A limit was added by the 2002 edition because cheese a) has carbs, and b) is one of the foods most people have a difficult time with for portion control. 3 - 4 oz per day, and you must count the carbs.

Quote:

You can get alcohol free vanilla, but I avoid food extracts on induction.

Soft and semi-soft cheeses are also allowed during Induction, not only hard cheeses. Dr. Atkins tells us we can eat aged cheeses. To the list of aged cheese he adds a few others, like cream cheese or mozzarella.

But that's right. No cottage cheese until OWL Rung 2.

You know, as I was typing that, I thought "mozerella is not a hard cheese..." but I actually do not understand the definition of an aged cheese. (And I forgot about cream cheese because there is no chance I'm buying it unless it comes in a 4g container, because I will PLANT MY FACE IN IT )

We were discussing this not long ago. Apparently in the US they have two kinds of mozzarella: the fresh one we have in Europe, and some hard mozzarella cheese, like the one used to make cheese sticks. This is how the latter looks like:

Oh, and about cream cheese, I don't know if you find Philadelphia in Ireland, but here we have 15 g (or was it 20? ) portion-sized Philadelphia cheese. It comes in little individual cups... like this jam:

The peas that are allowed are snow peas.
