Default 3 cups of salad only 4.9 carbs...?

Hello,

Quick clarification needed here:

I just looked up the carb count for 3 cups of lettuce, it is 4.9 carbs. So, on Induction, what should the balance of my carbs for the day come from?

I'm confused.

Thank you!!

I believe you need to read/re-read DANDR 2002. In DANDR, we are not told to eat 20 net carbs, but "not more than 20". This can be 14 g. So you do not need to aim for 20 g per day.

Also, regardless of what's written on atkins dot com, you do not need to eat 12-15 net carbs per day.

To increase your carbs and provide your body with more vitamins and minerals coming from veggies, you need to choose nutritious vegetables, not just the vegetables that are lowest in carbs. A cup of green beans has 4 net carbs. A cup of red pepper has 6 net carbs. The list of veggies allowed during Induction has a lot more options than lettuce.

And we are counting net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber), not total carbs. Net carbs are the only ones that count towards your daily carb level. Make sure you get over half of the net carbs you are consuming from vegetables. The rest can come from things like eggs, cheese, cream, spices, etc.

Check the vegetables list ont here for something a little higher in net carbs. There was a better list floating around but I can't seem to find it right now.

Lettuce is one of the lowest.

There is also a carbohydrate counter in DANDR 2002.

Thank you for your replies. So, not MORE than 20 net carbs a day, and most should come from vegis on the approved for Induction.

I guess I read a post on here, where someone advised another to make sure they get those 20 gms in a day, or that may have been a reason for the zero pounds lost in the first week of induction.

I think I will reread the Induction section of the book. As well as maybe this time, post a few of my menus, to get input as I'm going, to make the changes as appropriate....as opposed to gunning through the 2 weeks, thinking I'm right on track, and then being dissapointed to learn I was not.

Thanks again!!
