Default atkins bars?

I know that they really aren't all that induction friendly but I figured because I'm getting towards the end of my second week I would buy a box and see what they are like. Well, I bought these chocolate peanut bar things and they are gross! I think I'm going to wait until I'm out of induction to buy anymore but does anyone have advice on which ones are the best? I don't plan on eating a lot of them but every once in a while it would be nice to have one as a little snack.

From what I've read elsewhere, I think you got the best flavor. And yes, they are gross and full of chemicals. They are frankenfoods and it really is best to avoid them.

There are a lot of real food snacks and meals you can have so I would really try to stick with those.

If you are going exactly by the Atkins diet they would not even be allowed until nuts and grains rung because of the mixture of different ingredients. You may not think one here and there will do anything but your wrong. That little bit of mixture can stall you. Because of it all being together in one thing you can't eat it one at a time to see what will stall you or not. This is why we have the ladder.

You are absolutely right Mirya, I will wait before trying anymore until I get to that rung. What about low carb ice cream? I saw it at the store today. It was made with Splenda, would that be ok on induction? I can't think of any ingredients that would make that a bad choice.

Have you read the allowed foods for Induction (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)? Low carb ice cream isn't on there. The reason for that is that it contains milk (lots of sugar in milk), polydextrose, AceK, sorbitol and a ton of other chemicals. It really is best to stay away from frankenfoods, especially during Induction.

I always thought that Ice Cream was made with Cream, not milk, which is on the accepted foods list. Its very confusing because even in the book one minute it seems Dr. Atkins is saying the the great bars and shakes his company has produced are a great snack when your on the go and then later in the book it says to wait until after induction to have them. Maybe he meant the first comment about after induction also. The ice cream I don't think is a fake food, other than being made with splenda instead of sugar, I think its basically the same thing. I'll have to check the ingredients though and see what exactly is in it before I buy it!

It can be a bit confusing Chels. I agree. We share our opinions of the bars here to help people make their decisions. I think for most of us, if we really want to lose weight and keep it off, we have to start eating whole foods and very basic things. That does not mean we cannot have a treat once in a while but induction is a good time to try and change some habits. For some of us, I am was one of them, treats had become a daily and sometimes an hourly event.
Ice cream is possible to introduce on rung 2 but not on induction. If you check the list of ingredients (I am assuming this was breyer) you will see that milk and milk solids are first on the list. Also check and note that evey if it is lower in carb it is still carby. On induction you have a max of 20 carbs to spend and most of them has be spent on eating vegetables. It is a good thing

You could always make your own 'legal' icecream for induction! Using your cream 'allowance' and splenda 'allowance' it could make an occasional dessert.
