Default Snacks for a trip - UK

Hi, I'm going on a trip this weekend and I need snacks/food to take (nothing that needs refrigeration).

I've thought of cans of fish (mackerel, salmon, tuna). Then I'm stuck.

I know about beef jerky but I don't think I'm going to find that over here in the UK ... am I? I've found it online Wild West Beef Jerky - Product Details, Tenderbite Original - order delicious beef jerky online! but it's too late for me to order it for this weekend.

All induction-friendly ideas welcome!

Thanks! I can't take a cooler, but maybe cheddar cheese would survive without.
Plus eggs for the first few hours at least. Veg is no problem.

I thought of peperami too, that's a kind of sausage that is only sold here, I think, and doesn't need to be refrigerated. Only 1.5g carbs per 100g, it does contain sodium nitrate as a preservative but should be OK now and then?

You could make cheese crackers (put small squares or piles of grated cheese on baking parchment or a silicone mat then microwave or bake in the oven till melted and starting to brown) When cold they are just like a cracker and keep for ages in an airtight container.

Hey Rosie! Do you need the snacks just for the travel to where you are going? How long is the ride, and are you going by car, train, etc? Can you take a small cooler, or an insulated bag with ice packs? Or are you needing this food also for your destination?

Perhaps a cooler might be too big, but can you bring along an insulated bag or even a small wicker basket (line it with a tea towel or newspaper to act as insulation). You can freeze plastic water bottles (filled with water ) and use that as your source of ice.

For another time perhaps - it is quite easy to make your own jerky - and it is a very handy snack for these times.
I don't want to sound too harsh but sometimes when we travel (and I am guilty of this myself. I do have to travel a bit in my work) we overeat - Snacking become entertainment. So that is just something to keep in mind.

That all said. Don't know if you can get pork rinds but they can work. I sometimes bring bacon. (Always travel with bacon and eggs (boiled) )

Thanks for all the ideas! The cheese crackers sound great. I will try making those tomorrow.

The food is also for the destination, that's the thing. I am going to a place where vegetarian food will be served and I know most of the choices will be grain or bean based, so I want to keep some stuff in my room so that I can just eat a little salad and cheese at the meals and be sure I will not get so hungry that I start eating everything in sight

But Liv you are right, maybe I don't need to prepare so much. I don't want to end up with tons of food that I feel I have to eat before it spoils. That's why I was thinking more of things that would keep. These posts have given me some good ideas, thank you

Another 'legal' cracker can be made from ground linseeds and water.
Just mix equal volumes of these and let sit for a while to thicken up then spread out into cracker shapes, about 1/8th to 1/4 inches thick and bake or microwave.

You can add spices or herbs or even grated parmesan cheese to give different flavours.

You can also make crackers out of ground up pork scratchings, egg white and grated parmesan. I will see if I can find the thread these are in and add it here.
Here is the original thread where the idea was suggested - scroll down to Sunnysmile's post for her first experiment
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ng-crispy.html (Craving Crispy)

and my experiments here
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ind-chips.html (Variations on SunnySmile501's pork rind 'chips')
