A good example is mayonnaise - taking fitday's numbers may well be a long way off the actual counts for an individual manufacturer. I buy several makes of mayo and all of them have different carb counts because they are not using exactly the same ingredients! There is a difference of between 2-10 carbs per 100 mls (=6.75 tablespoons) making a difference per tablespoon of between 1/3 and 1.3 carbs, which can mount up if you use several tablespoonsworth across the day! Also for some produce carb counts can differ depending on the soil/fertilisers used. Growers might have bred a specially sweet tomato with more natural sugar! Some cherry tomatoes we buy over here in UK have different carb counts than other ones, as well as being different to fitday's numbers.

| 1 TAB = 0.5 ounces (there are 16 tablespoons in a cup and 8 fluid ounces) I use the fraction of an ounce when the tablespoons are not listed. |

| >>For many things I feel it is better to go with the label information as fitday is only taking the USDA info,>> Relying on the label for accurate information isn't "smart" in the US. >>has not contacted the manufacturer to check their individual information>> Very often the manufacturer will send back the information that is on the label. >>A good example is mayonnaise - taking fitday's numbers may well be a long way off the actual counts for an individual manufacturer.>> According to the Atkins carb counter book, 1 Tbs. of Hellmann's is 0.1 net carbs, according to the label, it's 0, and according to Fitday, it's 0.54. Now, personally I think that Fitday is a bit high ... and I learned a lot of my carb counts using the Atkins carb counter book. However, I've never gone to the trouble of making a custom food entry for Hellmann's in Fitday. >>over here in UK >> It's fortunate that the UK and other EU countries have much stricter labeling laws than here in the US. I think that telling people in the US to trust the label is bad advice though ... since so many people will then be counting things as 0 when indeed those items do have carbs. The best we have is the USDA list ... which is what Fitday uses. Of course, we could all become scientists and put a food lab in our basements I suppose! <joke> Low-Carb Pavilion -- Nutrition Labels http://www.fda.gov/Food/LabelingNutrition/default.htm#

| >>1 TAB = 0.5 ounces (there are 16 tablespoons in a cup and 8 fluid ounces)>> A tablespoon can also measure dry ingredients, which won't weigh 0.5 ounces. You can't compare volume and weight. A cup is a measurement of volume ... not weight.
