Default Shirataki Noodles

Anyone have yummy ways to prepare these noodles? I usually only use them for spaghetti...I love these low carb babies and they are full of fiber too but I am interested in knowing if anyone else has ways to prepare these wonderful noodles. Oh yeah....they have a a nasty texture but beggars can't be choosers.

They are not allowed on Induction.

I order them from LowcarbMegastore in the UK. Atkins Product, bar | Low Carb Megastore, Carbohydrate Diet, shopping, chocolate, diet, food

I'd always thought they were induction friendly, but if as Georgiana says, they are not... then you could get them when on the appropriate OWL rung.
I didn't come across them until maintenance, so the problem didn't arise for me.

A word of advice... when rinsing them (very well!!), don't smell them. If you do, you probably won't ever eat them!!!

Smarti... I use them with the kind of pasta sauces that cover well... like carbonara, amatriciana etc. Good with pesto too. Also, cut up in broth.

Any ideas on what the appropriate OWL rung would be?

I'm curious to try them at some point, although since the idea seems to be to get a 'full' feeling without eating too much, and we get that from the diet itself in the early stages, I imagine they are most useful when you come to the later rungs/maintenance.

Thanks for the information on where we can get them in the UK, Sally

In my opinion, there are plenty more nutritious foods one can try in OWL. I would certainly not add them in OWL Rung 1. That, I believe, would show an addiction to pasta that was not broken during Induction. First I would add vegetables... then diary, nuts, berries... all of which are better choices to me.

I know people who added them as early as OWL Rung 2 and they were fine with it though......

I don't think I am ever going to try them, but if I change my mind... I will add them in Pre-Maintenance, when/if I am trying other pasta.

Also, some of them contain tofu. So pay attention to that.

Hmmm... afraid you've got me rather stumped there. The noodles (we're not talking about the tofu shiritaki noodles here) are made from the root of something called the Konjac plant and are lagely composed of water and glucomannan which apparently is a water soluble dietary fibre.

I've seen people say they are ok for induction as they're pure fibre, but of course they're not on the induction foods list, so best to wait until OWL.

Anyone else know more about the Konjac/glucomannan plant?

I'm wondering if the early rungs of OWL would be their niche as they're from plants; but as for breaking one's pasta cravings... that would make them more suitable for later on.

I personally am quite happy using spaghetti squash instead, and it tastes great as a pasta substitute! Plus, you're getting great veggies in. You should see if you have that in your area.
