ptouch is on a distinguished road
Default Induction question regarding carbs.

I know we are supposed to eat items only on the acceptable food list.
But what if we eat something like chicken soup which has potatoes and
carrots but we do not eat these vegetables but only the soup.
I was sick over the weekend with the flu and laringitis and home made
soup was the only thing I could handle eating.
I did not eat any of the vegies that are not on the acceptable list but
now feel guilty that I had more carbs then I was supposed to.
Should I start over with my induction?

The book also mentions no fruits what so ever during induction but
I bought some breakfast bars from ATKINS that contain cranberries.
These are listed for all 4 phases of Atkins. What gives?

Hi.

Some of the cookbooks I own have the nutritional info to various broth recipes that use things like carrots, etc. When the solids are removed, the nutritional content ranges from 1 to 2 carbs per cup (8 ounces) of the broth. I would go ahead and count each cup of your soup as 1 or 2 net carbs.

As an aside, you can make soup without the carby veggies like carrots and potatoes. In fact, you can substitute turnips or cauliflower for the potatoes.

As for the Atkins bars and shakes that contain ingredients that aren't acceptable for Induction per Induction Food List and Rules, but are labelled as okay for Phase 1....well, that's what happens when a company is out for profit and not your weight loss success...

As not2late suggested the company Atkins does not stick to the rules of Dr Atkins' DANDR when marketing their bars so you do have to read the labels!
As well as cranberries (good spot by you of a non-induction ingredient btw) they may contain wheat or soy flour - also not allowed !
You need to look at the ingredients list and make sure they are all acceptable for the stage of Atkins you are at - grains on the grain rung, fruits on the fruit rung, nuts on the nuts rung etc - before deciding to eat the product.
Another reason many of us here stick to mainly non-processed foods.
