Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?
There's no universal answer for when someone starts losing fat.
And not everyone loses "a lot of weight" in that first two weeks.

no i haven't read it, sorry
No reason to say sorry to me ... you should be saying you're sorry to yourself.
Are you trying to do Atkins without knowing what's involved? Or are you just asking questions? If you're trying to do Atkins without the book, I fear you will be doing many things not so well. The book is really useful. I've never known anyone to achieve his/her goals without a copy.

I agree with Atkinsgal, trying to do Atkins without reading the manual is a bit like trying to assemble a complicated piece of machinery without reading the instructions, it is possible to do but not an efficient way!!!

Georgiana gave you an excellent answer to this question in April, 2009. The science (and answer) has not changed.
Are you trying to re-start Atkins or are you researching various plans to chose which one to follow? As mentioned, it is very helpful to read DANDR. The Induction stickies also give guidance on important facts such as what to eat during the first two weeks; the OWL ones, what to eat after that.
it will depend on how much glycogen you have stored as the body stores fluids with it.
if one begins atkins by switching from another weight loss plan one would not have very much glycogen reserves and thus body fat loss should occur by day 2. However if one was eating high carb nonweight loss plan then one would have a large glycogen reserve and the body while burning fats from day one would be using the glycogen reserve as make up energy source for the difference between the cal intake and the cal output from all sources. With that glycogen usage would also come the release of the stored fluids. Once the glycogen reserve was depleted the remaining weight loss should be mostly body fat. Average liver stores of glycogen can be 50-10 grams with the 150-300 grams of water. then depending on how much you have stored in your muscle tissues and the amount of exercise you are doing will determine when it is depleted and you are a fat shedding atkins inductee. It shouldn't be more then a few days

I hope that you dont stop posting the questions...they DO help a lot of us starting Induction or coming back to Induction. I think a lot can be learned from what other people are posting.
I've read the book and I wasn't reading this board in 2009. Anyone feel like answering the question today?
ETA - Sorry I just saw the answer. Thx
