Post away with the questions! :yes

Firstly though, make sure you've read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (version 2002, DANDR for short) and then fire away with any questions you may have.
It's very important that you educate yourself properly from the source, and not follow your friend's aunt's neighbour's idea of what Atkins is all about.

Welcome, and all the best to you! :joy

Welcome ! :wave

Yep, as Moochie says, it's really important to read the book because you don't get the whole picture just from ADBB or even from the atkins.com website. I started with just the atkins.com website but when a doctor recommended I read the book, it gave me a whole new understanding - an understanding of how Atkins works and it some weird way, it was the motivation behind getting me through the first few weeks. If you are not a great reader, try the DANDR on tape. I love listening to it at work as the words are so encouraging (so is the book for that matter)

And anything the book is not clear on, or you're not sure about the answer, the moderators/administrators/forum hosts or any of us reading your posts will answer !

Our board here follows DANDR, and Essentials is a bit different than DANDR, so get yourself a copy and pitch the Essentials, ok? :yes

In the first week you can expect to feel kind of yukky..we call it the Induction Flu. It's your body going through withdrawals from sugar, caffiene, etc. The best thing you can do right now is immediately switch to decaf and get it all over at once. Just expect to have a headache for a few days, and maybe some lethargy and body aches, but by the end of week two it'll all be a memory, so hang in there! In the meantime, take tylenol or ibuprofen to ease the discomfort.

In DANDR, on page 127, there's a footnote at the bottom that talks about how everyone should avoid caffiene because it destabalizes your blood sugars.
I made the switch to decaf and after the initial adjustment period I can say that I enjoy my morning cup just as much as I used to.

Default give it up - you won't regret it

welcome soon to be not chunky, monky. i'm so glad you found this forum. i can totally relate to your desire to keep the coffee. i didn't want to give it up either. and I had a sentimental attachment to coffee because my late husband had adored it.

but I put my faith in dr atkins and the monitors here who said to give it up. and they were right.

when i realized how hard i was fighting to keep it, i knew i was addicted to it.

so...i gave it up. i only drink decaf now and i'm much better off for it. i'll tell you why it is worth getting rid of.

everytime you drink it coffee it spikes your blood and that is extremely bad for your body. yes, you feel this marvelous lift, but what goes up must also come down, and before you know it you are crashing.

to put your body through that up and down cycle over and over again is very damaging to your health. before atkins i had type ii diabetes. my blood scores were just awful.

one of the wonderful benefits of atkins is learning to eat foods that keep you running on an even steady keel. so give up the coffee. you won't regret it. after a few weeks, when your palate has adjusted you won't even miss it.

i was addicted to equal too - but splenda and stevia are much better choices and best of all, they won't spike your blood.
