| Hi Tammy, Welcome ! :wave Before I started Atkins, I found it very hard to stay on any diet that told me I had to limit my calories. I used to think about food all the time, especially late at night, trying to get to sleep - if I didn't stuff my face at dinner-time, I would be thinking at bed-time all the foods I could eat the next day and if I couldn't sleep, I would go and eat. Then I stumbled upon Atkins and I have not regretted it since. It is a DREAM diet that doesn't tell me I can't eat till I'm full. It doesn't tell me I have to eat lo-fat, diet, lite, none of that. I used to find butter, cream, oils pretty vile because I had been conditioned to think those foods were bad for me. Now I find I can eat these in moderation, without any guilt, and actually enjoy these! You will find many along the path who will tell you Atkins is bad for you. But if you read all your books, follow Atkins to a T, you will find that it is a very balanced WOE (way of eating) and that all myths about Atkins seem to be based on Induction, which is the strictest part of Atkins - necessary to switch you body from burning glucose to body fat. Every time I go to see my doctor, he keeps telling me Atkins is bad for me - he's even refused to do a blood-test for me... so I go to another doctor, and guess what? My blood test show my cholesterol is good or better than ever. You will find that once you get into Atkins, your appetite diminishes because the fats you eat leaves you feeling more satiated and reducing your carbs to almost non-existent means you cut cravings and the urge to eat. Remember to not go for more than 6 hours without eating, and to eat within 2 hours of waking up. If you're not hungry, then have a light meal, more frequently throughout the day. If you don't eat enough, your body will go into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down. Enough lecturing from me! Your emoticons should appear on the left side of your screen. Click on one of them and you will find the BB code for the emoticon appears at the end of your last text. Once again, welcome to Cheers

| why use coffee mate when you can have a cup of decaf coffee with a glorious tablespoon of real whipping cream? you will find that quality far exceeds quantity in this wonderful WOL. Do give up the caffiene. It is a killer that spikes your blood, gives you a fake high and then drops you down lower than you were before. i weaned myself off sugar and equal too. i switched to stevia, which is a natural herb that doesn't give you a fake high. Try it - it is great. |

| tabekat is right, caffeine is a killer and in the long run you don't need it. And coffee mate is definitely not allowed during Induction. tabekat, what is stevia? Is that an artificial sugar?

| You will only feel a bit 'urgh' and ill for the first few days - but after that you will start feeling great. I had bad headaches for the first week and often felt nauseas - but now - and I am on day 14!!! (YAY) I am getting used to this way of eating and I feel fab! I also struggled a bit with the coffee issue - but I did realise that caffiene will prevent loss - so I drink one/two cups of decaf a day. Lucky for me I dont like the taste of coffee with cream, so I drink more decaf black tea now. In the begining its difficult to think of foods to eat - but after a few days it gets easier and you think of new idea's. I have lost 9 pounds during induction - and you will do well too!

| Hello and welcome. There are lots of great stickies that you should give a read to along with your DANDR. Many people experience 'the induction flu' when they start this woe. It's your body adjusting to your new eating habits and detoxifying. It will pass! I had a wicked headache for several days from caffeine withdrawal, but that passed too and I've never felt better. Here's to your new Atkins journey! |
