Default Nitrates question - very short

I accidentally bought a pack of Kielbasa which contains nitrates. The good doctor says to avoid them because they are potentially carcinogenic. Well, OK, I appreciate the warning, and I'll try to avoid them in the future, but more importantly, will they stall my weight loss?

Thanks. Day five of Induction, here we come!

My understanding is no, they will not interfere with weight loss. They're just bad for ya.

If you have a food intolerance to nitrates, it might. But otherwise, it won't.

Thanks.

I was wondering, does all Kielbasa have nitrates?

Also, I was thinking a perfect Induction-compliant meal for me in the near future would be a pile of Kielbasa, a pile of sauerkraut (no more than 2 cups of course), and some mustard for the sausage.

What do people think?

Only one cup of sauerkraut - cabbage is a one-cup veggie!

Be careful, I've seen alot of kielbassa's with carbs in them, make sure you read the ingredients list, I know that the ones they sell here really vary.

I have a supermarket here that sells a fresh kielbasa--without grain fillers and nitrates. So you really need to read labels and look for products.

If you have a butcher shop, you might want to see if they have them. We have lots of members here who shop in small stores because these stores will carry (or even make) products the larger chains don't.

Nitrites are usually found in processed meats (cold cuts, bacon, hot dogs, etc)
because they are used primarily as a preservative to combat botulism. Thing is, during the cooking process carcinogens are formed. You'll get good at reading labels on this woe!
