Default Splenda & Sweet 'n Low

Do they really have any carbs? If so, how should I count them when I am using packets. I use 2 sweet 'n lows in my morning coffee.

Dr. Atkins says in the book that we are allowed 3 sweetner servings per day. Splenda is the preffered sweetner because of the evils of Aspartame.

I believe Sweet 'N Low is Acepham--, well I can't rememer how to spell it.

I don't count them carb wise, and if you do, count them 1 per serving. So if you use two in your morning Coffee, then you have one left for the rest of the day.

On page 128 of DANDR he talks about artificial sweeteners, and on the top of page 129 he notes that each packet has about 1 gram of carbs and we have to include that.

Absolutely anything you eat or drink, if it has carbs, has to be counted.

Exactly, What I meant to say is that I do count them. In otherwords, one can of diet rite which is sweetened with splend is one serving, and 1 carb. A 20oz bottle of Diet rite is 2.5 servings, so it is 2.5 carbs.

What I do for my coffee is use liquid saccharin (local brand). It is not a powder, like Splenda, so there are no carbs. It tastes the same as Splenda, IMO, and I save on carbs. Plus it lasts forever!

Splenda packets and Saccharin packets contain about 0.9 or 0.8 carbs per packet. So count them as 1 to be on the safe side.

If you read the ingredients, you'll see that they use dextrose or maltdextrin or both as bulking agents because sucralose and saccharin are many times sweeter than sugar and if it wasn't "bulked" you'd be measuring really tiny amounts.

Thanks guys. I think that may have been part of my problem to start with - that I was NOT counting the splenda or sweet 'n low. Darn it! I thought it was "free"!! I should know by now (after 46 yrs) that NOTHING in life is free.

I am cooking that Hamburger Pie tonight w/ the horseradish in it! Boy does it smell good. And it was SO easy! Anybody hungry? I am also having a salad w/ tomato & Hidden Valley Ranch w/ bacon dressing.

Hopefully, I'll get the "whoosh" that people talk about! It got up to 90 degrees here in NC today!

Oh, and by the way, I have been using that FitDay website (free) with a suggestion from someone on this board and it is GREAT!! www.fitday.com

Best wishes to all! Thanks for the support
