Default question about clothing...

ok, I feel really stupid having to ask this...BUT It has been so long since i have actually wore jeans that button and zip, not hte elastic ones...that I need some guidance. I am tall with a long torso. My 28 are loose, my 26 fit me well except the waist band comes up to my ribs, if I place it on my waist, they sag int he crotch. Are they too big? too small? HELP

Amy

I would say too big however... jeans are very hard to fit. I can wear 3 different sizes depending on the cut and brand.

It's hard to find jeans that will fit you everywhere when you're overweight. Lane Bryant makes some good ones though. Make sure any you get have stretch in the description, so they'll fit better.

I used to get the jeans that were fuller in the butt and thighs, and that had the little elastic inserts at the waist, otherwise, they would be too big on my waist.

That's not an issue anymore, but I also read an article in a womens magazine that said that low rise jeans, that sit below the waist, actually make most womens tummies look smaller, because it smooshes it in.... whereas jeans that sit at the waist allow the tummy to pooch out below the waist band. I looked at myself in my old jeans and realized they were right!

Well I wasn't sure I was ready for low rise jeans, but I tried some on and I LOVE them!

I would venture to guess that they are just a bad fit for your body. I second that a good fit is hard to find. It may be that they are too large also. I have noticed that as I lose weight, pants that one time fit me, I am now able to pull up to my ribs. If I don't, I get the saggy crotch. If I go one size down, they then fit correctly sitting at the waist.

Get out there and try on some different styles and sizes. I also recommend the stretch kind (the ones without the elastic band). They still give a little and they are so comfy, but cute at the same time.

Its amazing what a good fitting jean can do for your self esteem too!

I was in the same situation as you...having worn elastic waisted pants for so long, and it not mattering where I pulled them up to, since I wore a big shirt over top, I had no idea where they should actually fit. Now that I've lost a LOT of my belly, all my pants sit higher up...sometimes I put on an old pair, pull them right up to my bra line, and run around the apartment in them...lol

I went into a jeans store and point blank asked the sales person to help fit me with jeans and to explain how they should fit. I told her I had lost a lot of weight and was clueless, and she was very happy to help me. I ended up in a size way smaller than I thought I'd ever wear, but they have spandex in them, and they fit like a glove!

It costs nothing to go try clothes on...so maybe go to a few stores, ask different sales people, and try a bunch on to find what fits you correctly.

A note about stretch in jeans...make sure you don't dry them in the dryer, as this breaks down the spandex and it doesn't snap back anymore, so you get little pouches where your weight is. This happened with a pair of stretch khaki (did I spell that right?) pants that I had.

Interesting dryer tip. I have never had issues with drying them...other than shrinking them that is.

Hmmm, all of my jeans have spandex stuff in them and I always dry them with no problems. Maybe the khaki jeans are made differently than regular denim jeans?

BTW, Lane Bryant really does have a wide selection of jeans in different styles, for different body shapes. They can be pricey, unless you catch them on sale. I have 3 pair of size 18 talls from LB, that I hardly wore that I'm gonna put up for auction on eBay one of these days. That is another option for us girls as we go down sizes..... if you know a certain brand name/style will fit you good, there are always cheap ones up for auction on eBay and it's usually ladies like all of us who have been losing weight and they put their old size clothes up for auction.

I am am a clothes freak so I would also like to add this...Why don't you try some low waist jeans also known as *low riders* I know what your thinking...no your underwear won't show! You can actually buy some and they sit at your waist..I have a few..trust me I don't want to walk around with my underwear showing..lol. When you look at a pair of jeans, you can tell whether or not they are going to be long in the crotch area by how many inches there are underneath where the zipper ends...if there are more than 4 inches than you know it's going to sag there!!! Like moochie says too..it never hurts to try them on...I looove the low waist jeans at the Gap..

Hope this helps...

I never thought I would own a pair of low rider jeans, but I love them. I got some at Kohls in the plus department. They are Gloria Vanderbilt brand. They have a little bit of stretch and are soooo comfortable. They were on sale for $20.00 when I bought them in the spring. They don't show my undies either!
