Default clothes sizes....frusteration....

Okay, Okay, I don't know what it is. I wear size 12 pants for work and they fit fine. I go to try on a pair of shorts that were at a thrift store, mind you they were size 16s. Arg.. They were too tight!! What is up with sizes.... I am so frusterated

I hear you!!! Everyday I've been trying on my old clothes of different sizes...I was generally a 16/18 before I started in June. I tried on a pair size 15 pants yesterday that are still a touch too tight, yet I fit in a size 13 skort today.

Sizes are screwed up. Its psychological - we want to see the smaller numbers but its really about what fits and looks good. So don't fret the numbers - you're doing great!!

Plus size clothing is all over the place. Those of us in the long-term plus size world know that even if it is the SAME manufacturer, SAME material SAME size, SAME style....the green pants fit differently than black ones.

Sucks, but it's true!

Ugh, you're telling me! I just went shopping at Old Navy. I was so excited to be able to shop there again & they were having a great sale. I tried on a pair of pants that I'd been eyeing for awhile. I tried on a 16 but they were big. On my way to the cash register, I happily swapped the 16's for a 14, but I had to get a green pair instead of the khaki pair I'd tried on. I smiled the entire 45 minute drive home. I went to try on the pants for hubby, to show him I could finally wear a 14 & low & behold, I couldn't get the stupid things past my thighs! I was so upset, I cried!

I couldn't be bothered driving all the way back to return them, so they are now part of my "Thinspiration" collection in my closet......next to the CK "skinny" jeans & the size 8 dress.

I'll always hate shopping. If you're a size 10 somewhere, you'r going to be a 16 in a different store....there should be some kind of governing law to make all sizes the same.

Oh, I really do I agree, with the law to make all sizes the same. It really gives you a misconception of what your true size is; it's frustrating, but it's always nice to be able to say you have a pair of pants in a smaller size, lol

Yep, and that's how it all started. A few pioneers in the fashion industry realized that if they sized their clothes on the small side (calling a 16 a 14), women were more likely to buy that label. Well then it got out of control. I think I read somewhere that today's average size 16 is really a 22!!!!

I have a pair of jeans from high school (circa 1994) that is a size 12, and I can't even pull it up past my knees. I have size 12's from the past year or two (same label!) that are clearly about 2 sizes bigger because I can pull them up all the way but not button them.

Next thing you know, we'll all be in size 0's. Uhh.. yay?
