Default My 3 weeks on Atkins... (note:husband still alive!)

long post.... sorry in advance
Well, I first of all can't tell you how much it means to me that I have someone out in the ether to whom I can report my success/failure. If I didn't have this, I'm not sure I would make it.
  • If I'm hungry (or think I am), I come to the recipe forum. I spend so much time deciding which recipe looks the best (because they are all amazing) that I realise I'm not really hungry - just bored/angry/frustrated/depressed, etc.
  • When I don't think I can do it - I go and look at others who have done far more than I ever hope to - and have succeeded.
  • When I can't figure out why the heck I eat or sabotage myself - I read others inspirational journals, comments, etc.
Thank you!

As to my week... still no joy with the ketosis sticks. Strange. Sticking around 15 carbs per day average. Average caleries, 1600. Not because I'm watching... it just gives me that info. Hunger level - next to nul. Especially in the mornings when I'm usually ravenous. (except for wanting a little bit of something before bed which is unusual for me) Started exercising intensively this week. oww... !

Next week - think I'm going to up my carbs to 20 ish. More veggies. (since I'm trying to exercise a LOT more!)

My husband - well, he has stopped harrassing me (sort of) and has 'designed' his own diet. He is not eating white bread, butter, or drinking alcohol. White bread as the basis for something (like pizza) doesn't count. He's going to 'show' me! (last night he ate ice cream with whipped cream on it right in front of me - asking me if I wanted any) He has, however, started eating my breakfast (in addition to his own) and some of the dinners I cook - 'because he doesn't want to cook his own'. So maybe we are getting somewhere. When I tell him how much I've lost, etc. he professes me 'lucky'. So for this week anyway - he's decreased the likelihood that he is going to be among the non-living!

Hardest non-cheat time this week? Our son is 25 months old. He cannot walk without assistance and he cannot really talk at all. We've had hundreds of tests - all showing nothing. (MRI - fine, blood work - fine, etc.) We went for 3 days of observation this week and they declared him 'definitely brain damaged' even if you can't see it on the MRI. They said he is at a 14 month old level and they can't say if/when/how he will progress. On the way home, ALL I WANTED was to drink and drink and drink - until I didn't have to think about it anymore. I'm ashamed to say that if there had been wine in the house - I would have done it. What did I do instead? I read a journal by Brook who also has a handicapped child - and some of her points sunk thru my sadness and I went to bed early so that the next morning I could wake up and look at things differently. (like he (our son) doesn't know he's 'sick', and he is not ill, and he doesn't feel bad, and he's happy, and as far as we know there is no tumour or cancer, etc.) Bed/sleep was a good way not to give in to unreasonableness and escape-ism! (I'd feel like crap the next day and Mathias wouldn't be any better.)

So, the good news for the week:
Weight - Total lost in 3 weeks = 8.35 pounds / 3.8 kilo
Measurements - Total for 3 weeks = 9.25 inches / 23.5 centimeters

I'd like to lose more... But at least I'm still losing!!!!

Thanks again for the support! Week 4 here I come!
Kacey

woo hoo for you weigh to go on the sticking too it!!
I'm so sorry about your son. have you gotten in contact with an early intervention program? if not demand one from your doc. they will help you and him with exercises to help his motor skills and metal developement too. run to Brooks jopurnal and look at the progress little Sammy has made. I'm not saying your son will do as well as she is but I'm sure Brook never dreamed Sammy would break her heart telling her to stay inside and watch from the window just 3 yrs later as she boarded the bus for summer school.

Hubby defineitly needs a Dr Phil adjustment. Tell him how it makes you feel when he tortures and disresects you as a person with things he knows you have given up for a healthier smaller you which you need so the two if you can grow old together. When he sees it from your side not a funny joke at all he should stop. remind him even if he choses not to follow your healthy eating plan he needs to be your biggest supporter in your efforts and be strong for ou when you are weak cause that is his job as your husband. if that doesn't work give us your address and ADBB will form a butt kicking line for him.

Hi - thanks for that. Regarding my son, we've got physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, etc. etc. and no one knows why he cannot walk or talk. He can stand, he can walk with assistance, but his balance is totally off. We've had hearing tests (asleep and awake), MRI's, blood tests, and now we are waiting on chromosome test results. All tests so far were negative - so it was very depressing to hear that he is so far behind (40%) and they can't tell us if he will be a 15 year old who is like a 9 year old or like a 4 year old or ... Anyway - I am inspired by others triumphs - so I'm not giving up on him. Quite the contrary. HE is my motivation. I want him to have a young, healthy, role model for a mom! He at least deserves that.

As to my husband - well, I quite agree with you. I don't quite get his attitude. He claims to want me looking thin and sexy but puts down all my efforts - even trying to tempt me into eating things that are a no-no. Jealousy? Resistance to change? I'm not sure. But at least he's gone from joking about the diet (no way, never work) to starting one of his own. If he doesn't get in control soon - I'll sign up for that line for sure!

Thanks for your reply! It really does help me to have 'someone' to discuss my changes in my WOE. (I live in Denmark where breakfast is Danish's (ha ha - but true) or white bread and cheese. Lunch is open faced sandwiches. And dinner is meat, POTATOES EVERY NIGHT, and veggies plus wine. So it is not easy to find a friend who'd like to give up their entire cultural eating habits in order to join me. But that's ok - I'm staying motivated with this board!)

All my best!
Kacey

Hi Kacey ~

I am really glad that you found this board. I feel the same way about it as you. In fact, instead of being *obsessed* with eating carbs & sugar, i now turn to reading the board as my new obsession. It keeps me motivated & excited about this way of eating, way of life... and i just love the people here.

Congratulations on a wonderful start! You are doing great. Hang in there with your man, we are all here for you if you need to vent.

I feel for you with your son... and i do hope they at least can give you some solid information soon. Please keep us posted. We'll all be thinking of you.
