Default ketosis

Hello,
I have a question on ketosis and stalls.
I am 5-6 weeks in. I lost 8 pounds the forst two weeks, and really nothing since. I havent been excercising consistently like I should, and I know that is part of it. My question is: When you are in ketosis, do you still stall?
I am just asking because my keto-sticks show I am in, and my breath is something else! I am pretty vigilant in not cheating, besides a can of diet dr. pepper on the weekend.

I am sure it has to do with the fact that on a lot f days, i only get about a half hour of good excercise, but I have to ask.

Pauses in weight loss are part of the process. And yes, they even happen while in ketosis. You haven't indicated your starting weight so it is difficult to respond, but eight pounds in two weeks is significant weight loss. Work on some consistent exercise and increase your water intake. While they are necessary components of a good program, they may also jump start your weight loss.

I agree with Irish. Exercise is the key. Even if it's just walking around the block one time. Just get your body moving for about 30 min a day or whatever you can handle and i'm sure you will see a move in the scale!

Don't forget that your body can change and your measurements can change, even w/o the scale changing. Stick to this WOE, esp with your vigilance, and you will see movement in the scale eventually too.

Yes, you can NOT lose in ketosis. I actually gained 2 pounds while in ketosis, but I stuck with it and now I have lost those 2 pounds plus more. I ride my bike for a half hour to an hour a day.

Hmmmm...thanks for posing the question, ibpauly!! I'm 4 weeks in and I have only lost 4.5 - 5 pounds (depending on the day). I didn't know what on earth I could be doing wrong because, like you, I don't cheat and I've been running 5 days a week for 3 miles at a time and drinking my water! I went to the grocery store today to get Ketostix and I just tested and I'm the deepest purple on the bottle!! So I'm with you ~ what gives???? It's extremely frustrating, as I'm not a patient person to begin with! Not that I'd change my WOE even if I got to goal in a day, but it would be nice to know I'm doing all of the right things and that eventually I will see results! I really haven't felt that "surge of energy" that everyone talks about either, in fact, I'm pretty tired from all of the exercise!!

jennyj, Actually you are doing amazingly well. You have lost 5 pounds and thats great. Folks who lose 10-15-30 pounds on this plan, have 100, 150 to 300 to lose so they lose a lot more but we all lose about the same ratio wise.
Don't be frustrated. I went for 6 weeks and didn't lose an ounce and was about ready to give it all up I was so frustrated, and then the Whooshie Fairy came and I lost 5 pound in one week and then another 5 pounds the second week and then nothing again.
Ibpauly, your doing fine. 1) Try on a pair of tight jeans and you will be amazed at how loose they are. For some reason, (and 2big probably understands why, but I never got it) when the pound don't go, the inches do. Let me know how they fit.
Are you drinking your water. Dark purple generally means you need to drink more.

weight lose isn't a linear function. because of complicated biochem reasons the human body likes to maintain shape so it plumps fat tissues with fluids when fat molecules are being burned ofr energy. since water weighs the same as fat but is denser like muscle is you will shed inches of body fat while your sclaes stay the same until you exceed the biochem tolerance level you have for the interferance this fluid is causing and you generate some fluid releasing chems and whoosh overningth pounds jump off you. We jokingly call that a visit from whooshie here. So make friends with your tape measure and what the shedding of inches of fat as you morph your body working your Atkins to become the smaller healthier you.

Also when you start a new fueling process your body needs to build up the transportation molecules, the helping molecules, the new places to burn the fuel, and change the storage areas too and it doesn't do this over night so you will feel more tired then you did when working out pre Atkins until this change occurs. Also if you are drinking all your water and not making wise food choices and supplementing you can be come deficient in water soluble vits and minerals too which will slow your build up of the new fatburning equipment along with other essintial body functions. Give it some time check your vits and minerals from your food and supplements at a site like fitday.com in the reports section and see if you need more.

Jenny J you are 25% of the way to goal today . WOO HOO!!!!! for somebody like me that would be a loss of over 36 pounds you are doing great. How many inches you lost so far?

An ENORMOUS thank you to both of you, Desert and 2big!!! (((Hugs))) I've been feeling like such a "newbie" on this board (even though I am)! It kind of feels like being the new kid in a new school ~ you're not sure where to start or who to talk to and you eat lunch all alone! You have both given me such motivation and confidence that I am on my way!!
2big ~ I'm sad to say that I didn't measure when I began. I wanted to go by how my clothes fit and after facing the number on the scale, I didn't want anymore shockers! Haha! My clothes may fit a *little* better, but I'll be glad when I can put on my jeans again without the dreaded "roll" hanging over the sides! I know I can do it ~ especially with people like you who take the time to help in a kind way! Thank you again!

Thanks to everone fr all the replies. I am kind of on hold right now. I had some surgery on my leg clearing up a torn tendon from a few years back, and had some slight complications. Apparently, the mucsle running down my ankle was too long? anyway, healing is taking some time. I havent cheated yet, but havent gotten anything for excercise either. I am looking forward to at least being able to sit up for more than 20 minutes at a time so I can do a little upper body work out.

to answer the question earlier on my stats:
male, 37 years old, 5'11", started at 250, down to about 236 before surgery. Cant really weigh in for a while since i have about a 10 pound cast right now.
Alos, too tired to proof read so I apologize for the typos I am sure I have....
