Default The culprit?

Hey Everyone. I'm 5 weeks in and have lost 4-5 of the 20 pounds I've set out to lose (depending on when the scale wants to play games with me). I run 3 miles a day usually 6 days a week, drink 64 ounces or more of water a day,(yesterday was 80) which is amazing considering I NEVER drank ANY straight water before this WOE, and followed induction by the book. After 2 weeks, given I only had 20 pounds to lose, I moved to OWL. I continued to eat the same, but added back wine and my weight loss just stopped altogether. I could have sworn that I could add back alcohol, so I re-read the book. These are the lines in the book that gave me the impression I could (pg.181 - OWL):
"Can I drink alcohol now that I am in OWL? The body burns alcohol for fuel when alcohol is available. So, when it is burning alcohol, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss; it simply postpones it. If it does not slow your weight loss, an occasional glass of wine is acceptable once you are out of induction.."
It didn't say anything about waiting until a specific "rung", so I went back further in the book and lo and behold, on page 171 it gave the "ladder".
I have lost inches (I can tell because my bra doesn't cut in like it did before). So where do I go from here? Do I cut out the wine and do induction all over again? If I continue on as is will the weight drop since the inches are? I can't even begin to try to find my CCLL since my weight has been stalled for weeks. Sorry this is such a long post - I'm just so frustrated and feel like everytime I turn around I'm doing something wrong to sabbotage my efforts. And while I'm at it, there's also a discrepancy in the book about wine and carbs: Page 181 says that a 3-1/2 ounce glass of wine contains about 4.3 grams of carbs, but page 492 says a 4 ounce glass of white wine has 0.9? How many carbs am I counting? Maybe this is my problem as well, as I've been counting the 0.9. Thanks everyone!

Hopefully not2late or 2big will be around to help you with the carb count of the wine. I've never been too clear on carb counts for wines anyway...

However, you don't have to move back to induction. Just cut the wine and see if you start losing again. It may or may not be the wine. I've been in a stall for 4 weeks now...I've actually gained! Once you start losing again, you can try the wine again and see what happens. If you stall again, you know your body can't tolerate the wine.

this is why we tell folk to reads the whole book. Read a little further and you will see that stalls are defined as 4 weeks of no pounds NOR inches lost. you are not stalled. You are shedding inches of fat as you morph your body adding muslce mass (which will increase your metabolism and burn more fat for you) and fluid mass. The scale has no way of knowing how your mass has changed since the last time you check the gravitational effect on it all it knows is your total mass is unchanged when the numbers stay the same. This is why Dr Atkins tells us to use a tape measure nd watch the inches of fat being shed.

Next you never need to go back to induction unless you are out of ketosis. and then it is only for a few days to get back in ketosis so no don't do induction again just stop drinking the wine. Climb the ladder correctly so you can test real world foods and see how your metabolism reacts to them.

When you arrive at rung 5 you can add back your alcohol. there are many websites that will give you carb counts for alcohol based on their listed serving size as different wines have different counts depending on if they are sweet dry and/or the type of grape added.

If you want to be on the safe side, since no 2 wines are exactly alike, count each ounce as a gram of carbs. There is definitely a difference between fortified red wine and dry white wine, but using the upper limit on possible carb count would be better than under-estimating based on a general count for white wine 4 oz= 0.9g or red, =2g or unspecified 3 1/2 oz = 4.3. This would be easier - 5 oz any wine or champagne=5g. Hard liquor=0. Beer= read label.

Thanks, all! I DID read the entire book, but unfortunately, ever since high school (way back when) I tend to remember only what catches my attention most - and as a wine lover, that definitely caught my attention!! Haha! I'm going to forego the wine and see how that works for me. I've also noticed I'm not sleeping as well since I added it back, so hopefully I'll sleep better without it too!
