Default My 5 weeks on Atkins

Hi all - Back for my weekly report... 5 weeks - amazing. It seems time usually goes SOO slow when I'm 'dieting'. (and I can't help but admit that I'm wishing away about 6 months or so right now to 'see' my fantastic new self - ah well patience is a virtue or so I'm told)

Weekly report: Down a total of 13.3 pounds and over 15 inches. 5 weeks - cheat free! (except for a few extra cups of coffee one day & half an Atkins bar for dinner one night whilst travelling - does that count as cheats?) Still on 20 carbs. Getting 70% fat/24% protein/6% carbs. Not quite the correct percentages but I get sick of chicken and turkey which increases my fat percentage a bit too much.

Hardest non-cheating time: Driving home from the airport where I just dropped off my soon-16 year old daughter for a ONE YEAR exchange student trip to China. We had been packing, etc. for several days and I mostly didn't sleep the night before. So on the way home from the airport, I started eating the snacks I had brought. After a few small pieces of cheese I was full. Next thing I know, my mouth is full again. Hard boiled egg. 10 minutes later, more snacks. WHAT was I doing? I thought and thought about it. I was DYING to put something in my mouth. I think that exhaustion, the long drive, the emotions, etc. were moving my hand to the snack bag and to my mouth and all the while my brain was protesting! WHAT is that about? Brain says, "STOP fool - you are not hungry!" Weird twin personality side keeps feeding my mouth. Thank goodness there weren't hostess cupcakes any where close!
Most Proud Moment: Swam 3/4 mile without stopping. I haven't been swimming laps since I was 15. I went twice this week and managed over 1,000 meters each time.
Husband report: He finished week 1 yesterday. Down circa 3 kgs. He is convinced it's because he is not drinking or eating white bread. WHATEVER! (he is SO stubborn) SHOCK of the week - the man that for 10 years has told me that weight lifters are teenage boys on steroids asked me if he could do some weights with me!!!! OMG! And on top of that he wanted to go bike riding with me and walking. Whatever is in the water is working - HEY, I might have to drown him in it!

My deep thought of the week: he he
If you are around my age or older (40), perhaps you can remember when you were a kid and late at night you could lie in front of the stereo and tune in to some 'weird' stations. I grew up in Oklahoma. I could hear New York, California, and sometimes I could hear foreign languages (which may be how I ended up with wanderlust and in Europe!). Anyway - while listening you would have to concentrate REALLY hard to hear what was being said because there was a lot of WEEEEEE OUUUUUUUUUUUU IIIIIII static noise. And then a sudden moment of totally clear reception. OMG - the thrill of that! I hope someone knows what I'm talking about?

Anyway - I thought this week that this was a pretty good analogy to what is happening inside my head sometimes. LOTS of static (allowing evil twin to take over my actions) and an occasional TOTALLY clear recognition. I'm trying to figure out where all this static has come from - and why? It makes just about everything I REALLY want to do harder.

One of my goals following this WOE is to walk-the-walk so much and so long, that I can nearly ALWAYS hear thru the static and find out what is really going on in there!

OK, 1 more week on 20 carbs and exercising my behind off. Then I'm moving up!

Kacey

Kasey,

It sounds like you are right where you are supposed to be and have a great attitude about it. I know how hard it is to be patient. I have a number of years on you and my static seems to have lasted a lot longer than the average person and it is only in recent months that I have my moments of clarity. Using the multidisciplinary approach to weight loss is also important to I'm happy to see you checking in on all levels. Without the thought and understanding of why we are doing this and what are vulnerable moments are, we are only destined to repeat the behaviors of old. I may not every a conistently stellar outcome, but I refuse to gain back what I have fought so hard to lose.

Continued best wishes for success to you !!
