Default My 6 weeks on Atkins

Warning: Rant follows....

Words of the week: Frustration and Depression.... (don't read this if you are already depressed!)

Well, everyone in the house is now following the WOE plan. (mostly because I do the cooking...) Things are rolling merrily along - then we ALL start exercising this week. (I've been exercising since week 3 - but the others added exercise this week)

So, I bike, I walk, I weight lift, I Pilates, etc. I have used an average 600 calories a day in exercise the last week (bar the one rest day I allow myself). I've recorded every bite of food that has gone in my mouth. I'm still eating 20 grams of carbs. Drinking 5 liters of water a day.

And the grand total IS.... NET GAIN of .5 pounds and NET GAIN of .5 centimeters. AWKK!

I know, I know. These things happen. And maybe I'm just cranky in general today. But I have to say that listening to the other members of the house (who also gained a bit - but I'd put that down to starting exercise unless they are sneaking foods when I'm not around) say, "I thought you said this diet WORKED?" "Why don't I lose weight? Are you making this stuff up?" "I told you this would never work." ETC. Ad nauseum) is seriously pissing me off... (oops, maybe I'm not suppose to say that - sorry)

I can't believe that I can eat 'normally' and not exercise and be appx the same weight as I am now. OK - I agree. This is a MUCH better way to eat. A much HEALTHIER way to eat. This is better for everyone - no junk food, box food, can food, chemical food. Maybe I just have too high an expectation. (Like a downward movement on the scale and tape measure instead of UPWARD! )

I think I'm having a mid-life crisis. This kind of support for everyone else, even when I am depressed - or I am finding it hard, constant encouragement for them, answering STUPID questions for the 50th time (like "WHY again can't I have potatoes?"), along with the usual annoyances (like "HOW WOULD I KNOW where you put your socks last time you wore them? And WHY would I know where your hairbrush is?) are wrecking my head! These things should not bother me - I've been answering these stupid questions for 15 years... Why now?

Oh well, sorry for the rant. I'm NOT going to give up! I'm going to exercise even harder this week! (I swam almost a mile 2 times last week - so I'm going for a mile this time!) I AM going to move up to OWL 1 and add some more veggies - even though I'm not quite sure how to get even MORE food into the day (and down the mouths of my fellow housemembers).

And ..... I'm going to take my own advise and go read more success stories! This always motivates me.

Oh yeah - Proudest moment this week.... DYING for chocolate. Bought a sugar free chocolate bar. Took 1 bite. GAGGED. OOOO - that tasted like WAX. Overcame chocolate addiction for the rest of the week! WAX CHOCOLATE. OMG - who can eat that stuff? But - hey it worked!

Sorry for the rant. Was hoping for a better 'end' or 'start' to my week.... Ah well, hopefully it gets better from here.

Thanks for listening!

Kacey

Okay, don't you worry. Stop it! I think you're having a simple case of "Muscle weighs more than fat". Let me say it again, "Muscle weighs more than fat". Just keep doing what you're doing, because it's great. You are doing all the right things! You're going to look fantastic with all the exercise. Try measuring your body then check your measurements & the scale in another 2 weeks. You'll be happy then. Stay off the scale for a while.

Smile, you're rocking at this!

hang in there weight loss isn't linear you are going to have downward weks falt week and even some upward weeks as you morph your body shedding fat mass, adding muscle mass and that fluid mass in a constant stat of flux but the overal movement is downward.

happy low carbing

Hi Barb - I have that book! Never read it, but maybe I should before I pull a 'runner' and move away from home, get my own place, and change all my numbers!

Good grief! The funny thing is they think something is wrong with me - and I agree - something IS wrong with me for putting up with this helplessness for too long!

OK - I'm cranky today. Maybe, just maybe, I'll return to 'normal' tomorrow? We'll see! (but I'll start reading just in case!)

They are being "needlessly needy"! I HATE THAT!
It was different when they were small, ok, and DID actually need me for things! But geez! They are grownups now! Time to start fending more for themselves I say!! Yeah, I am changing alright. And they just better get used to it!

Hey Kacey,
Remember to take your measurements, because that is where things will probably start to show up first, especially if you are this active with the exercise...
Every one needs a rant now and then, the scales are frustrating because they just go up and down and up and down, but eventually you don't return to a number you have bounced around near for a while... I bounced at 214, 211, 214, then 2 something, I can't even remember what the heck it was today...
You can find that good feeling in clothes and measurements, and general all around well being!!! Stupid tin box should not be GIVEN THE FINAL WORD!

Hi friends!
The stress can be hurting your weight loss. THe first time I started Atkins, I hit the gym twice a day, and was pushing myself so hard I didn't rest at all, neither sleep well, so as a result I lost nothing, now I'm starting my 3rd week of extended induction and I'm so happy to finally see the results! My advice to you is keep on doing what you are doing and relax, rest, it will work out, but you must be as stress free as possible.

Good luck!
