| The change in the veggie list happened with The Atkins Essentials, the book published after Dr. ATkins' death. It's a sort of "Atkins for Dummies" book. Anyhow, they made a couple of vegetables "salad" and "other". I think it was based more on how people use those vegetables rather than the carb count because tomatoes made it to the "salad" list. 1 cup of tomatoes is about 5 net carbs. So it's easy to eat 15 net carbs worth of tomatoes, add to it the other carbs you need to count (cheese, cream, sweetener, some beverages, eggs, etc.) and it's possible to eat well above the 20 net carb limit.
