| Hi ![]() Great job that is an awesome loss for only 16 days ![]() I have moved this post into the forum for people wanting to stay on induciton for longer than the usual 14 days so new members dont get confused, but suggest you rethink the decision to stay on induction levels of carbs till you reach goal. Dr Atkins wanted us to learn how to adjust our menus in order to be able to maintain our goal weight when eating 'after dieting' so he worked out a plan where we gradually add different foods back into our diet (using the old meaning of 'diet=eating regimen rather than weightloss effort'). He called it Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) and many members have found that by following his rules we can eat a large variety of foods and not feel deprived while continuing to work our way down the scales to our goal weight. Now you are just 30 pounds away from your ultimate goal weight you need to start climbing the OWL carbohydrate ladder if you are going to discover your CCLL and any trigger foods. As for the 'reward' of pizza and beer - some people have great problems after eating off-plan for a 'treat' and risk falling off completely!!

| Yeah I agree completely with Elizellen, induction is not great for longer periods of time and you will find it will majorly slow, or even stall in the next couple of weeks.... You need to learn what foods you can eat and still lose weight, you do that by doing the OWL ladder! I lost more weight on OWL than i did on induction so do not think that your weightloss will slow or stop! Beer can be had when you reach a certain Rung in OWL, if you followed this WOE correctly it would be perfectly legal for you to have a beer or two when your at that Rung - pizza is also doable, we just make it differently

| They're right. The first time I did induction I stalled at the third or fourth week. |

| well i was thinking i could introduce those new foods like nuts and so on, but still limit to 20 carbs a day for now... does that work? as for the pizza and beer as a reward the day i reach my goal, i know i have enough willpower for that not to throw me off the plan... and i live in a city in NY state that has great pizza and our own brewery, thats why its so important. and like i said its keeping me motivated. |

I imagine if you add the food groups back in the order laid down in DANDR it could work. So starting with 5 net carbs of more vegetables, then dropping the extra veg and adding 5 net carbs of dairy, then dropping the dairy and adding nuts (one ounce regardless of actual carb count is an OWL addition btw) and so moving up the OWL ladder by substituting rather than adding the rungs. Seems a bit overcomplicated to me, and far easier to add the 5 net carbs each time you move on as in DANDR.

exercise was running a mile or 2 a day and weights about every other day ... sometimes id do a 6 mile walk through the city... all that put together for a little over 2 weeks and bing bang boom... 20 lbs lighter. from 280 - 260 at 6 foot 4 I notice im way less hungry than i was 2 weeks ago and i think a lot less about food. i used to go from one macdonalds to the next... literally. its kinda disgusting thinking back on it... now some days i eat one piece of chicken and some broccolli and feel like i just ate a whole horse. when before i could eat enough for 3 people and not even think about it. |

| Each person with a success story finds the way Atkins works best for them. I happen to be one who followed strict induction for a year before I began a slow climb up the rungs with additions of carbs. There are some foods I continue to avoid or limit. Part of moving from Induction allows you to see how your body processes additional carbs in a very controlled way. As an example, my husband's tolerance point for carbs to maintain his weight is far greater than mine is. You have done a great job! And while I don't advocate reward meals, don't step away from this site for long. It may be more of a struggle than you think.
