Default Re: My experience on extended induction (so far)

I gotta stay off the daily scale. If I gain any at all, I get discouraged and start to doubt. I have a girlfriend who texted me yesterday that she lost 18 lbs since Thanksgiving on her own diet. I thought, "Wow, that would be so cool, maybe I should do what she's doing," which I know doesn't work for me by the by. But it occurred to me just now that she reported an 18 pound loss over a six week period, not a day-to-day loss (in which there could have been some gains). I think weight loss is psychological first, and physical second, just like weight gain. So, just like I'm avoiding carbs, I'm avoiding those things that may discourage me. Make sense?

It makes perfect sense! I am going to start only weighing myself on Sunday or Mondays from now on. That is the best I can do because it's like not peeking at your Christmas presents when you know they are in your parents closet

Thanks for the good advice!

Viking Jim,

Your post helped me a great deal. You gave me a lot of inspiration by showing that your weight truly fluctuated as you began to lose. My fiance and I started Atkins for the 2nd time together (third time for me overall) on 01/01/08. Both of us were worried that the lbs. aren't falling off like they have in past Inductions. We are both cheat free and trying so hard. I personally have only lost 2 lbs in 7 days. Thanks again for the inspiration. We're gonna keep truckin'!!!

Hello Jim.

As a fellow numbers man, I thought you might be interested in this chart. This is my total weight loss in 2007 since I starting in July.

You can see a trend very much the same as your data.
A weight loss, a small gain, a hold, then a loss again. Which is repeated.

I too have been keeping a graph and it seems to bear out the idea that weight loss is not linear as well, especially for me since I have not cheated on Atkins at all and am in an extended inducation. Here is the data of my first 38 days to see the rhythm of my weight loss (and some gains). As you can see I went through cycles...good weight loss and then it seemed my body strugged to recover its equilibrium (?) and gain the weight back...out of 38 days I gained from the prior day 12 times (weight gain days in RED)

I hope this helps encourage anyone that is going through the same ping-pongprocess....other than Siksak's great graph I didnt see too much on this with hard numbers. But note that I have lost some significant weight percentages despite my yo-yo-ing

This is really encouraging for me. I was starting to think what is going on? Why has my weightloss yo-yo'd but now I see this is normal plus I wasn't doing absolute CLEAN extended induction. So with that said I will be starting a fresh clean induction tomorrow to jumpstart my weightloss again and this time sticking to it until I get ready to move on to OWL.
