Default My experience on extended induction (so far)

I saw a good stickied thread called weight loss is not linear, which was a very encouraging thread for me to see. I especially liked Siksak graph of the first 127 days.

I too have been keeping a graph and it seems to bear out the idea that weight loss is not linear as well, especially for me since I have not cheated on Atkins at all and am in an extended inducation. Here is the data of my first 38 days to see the rhythm of my weight loss (and some gains). As you can see I went through cycles...good weight loss and then it seemed my body strugged to recover its equilibrium (?) and gain the weight back...out of 38 days I gained from the prior day 12 times (weight gain days in RED)

I hope this helps encourage anyone that is going through the same ping-pongprocess....other than Siksak's great graph I didnt see too much on this with hard numbers. But note that I have lost some significant weight percentages despite my yo-yo-ing

Hello Jim,

Good post, and good idea.

Our weight-loss as men is more consistent due to our biology.

This is a chart of my weight-loss when I was also on Extended Induction.

You can see a very similar trend.

The downs, and then the ups after the down. Then a pause with no weight-loss followed by another down.

The break in the data on the graph was because I was in a business meeting in Hiroshima, and not at home. So I was unable to weigh myself.

Once again, thank you for sharing your experience.

I don't record weight gain - unless it's due to a cheat or something and - touch wood - I haven't cheated yet. I just hold the loss until I get back to it or move on. But this graph of my weight since I started on Sept 5th shows that it definitely isn't linear. The flat bits definitely involved some small gains and relosses.

Note for those still on induction and thinking of moving to OWL, I have marked the date I moved with an x. Perhaps there is a slight slow down of loss though I think that would inevitably have happened anyway and a much greater range of foods were eaten, which may be an encouragement to some to move on.

Hey this is great.

I'm at day 26 absolutely cheat free and have a very similiar weight loss profile. I know it's big taboo to weigh yourself every day but I did it anyway. Based on my first attempt at Atkins a few years ago and the readings here it's obvious the numbers are going to jump around a little but as long as the main trend is downwards, I try not to let the "mini stalls" or even an unexplained gain bother me too much.

Anyway, it's definitely a little frustrating when I get up first thing, head for the bathroom then head for the scale and see a GAIN?? I just take a deep breath and say it's normal and not let it get to me. Then reading a post such as yours really helps as it just goes to show how UN-linear weight loss really is. No way I'm going to complain about losing 19 lbs. in 26 days!!

Thanks for a great post.

Thanks for posting! I weight myself every morning and much prefer it to waiting a week or two in between. I am tracking my daily weight in fitday and it is very motiviating to see the graph go down every few days.

This is why I refuse to step on the scale for a while being I just started diet. The down's and up's were discouraging!!! but your graph was encouraging. I still choose to measure instead..smile. b/c I was on that darn scale at least 2-3 times daily at first. It was addictive.

Your 38 day thing really helps me. Now I can see why I have been advised to stay off of the scale! If this happend to me I would lose my mind and throw my scale out the window (I guess that would solve the problem wouldn't it). I weigh myself about 5 times a day and to the Ketosis stips about 3 times a day. I guess I do these things because I am looking to use my progress as my motivation. But if I experience what you experience and hit a long stall like you did in the middle there, I would be in danger of giving up because I know that I would get really angry and when I get mad I rebel usually.

Thank you for this post!!!!!!!
