Exclamation Question about ground meats, the percentage wise

I was curious in my followings of this way of life. I have someone whom swears up and down that buying say ground beef (ground chicken or ground turkey), in the 93% 7% is better then buying say the normal 85% 15% ground stuff. I was wondering does that have an effect on this diet. Isnt Atkins based on low carb higher fat foods? or am I just a dope and stick with the 93% 7% meats cause it doesnt make a difference??

In isolation I don't think it matters at all, it's personal choice - eat the one you like best. It's your overall intake that counts, not the ratios in any particular constituent of your diet.

I'm with Kate. The fat percentage on Atkins doesn't matter as much as fat remains our primary fuel source. I personally think Ground Chuck is the best option for hamburgers, but if I am cooking it for say taco meat, I will choose the lower fat option as greasy taco salad is not a good thing. IMO, it's a matter of taste and use -- use the right meat for the job not because one is nutritionally better.

As a quick note - you are paying for the extra fat with the higher %. So pay attention with prices! Fat weighs more too even in beef

Over here in UK the higherfat ground meats are cheaper than the lean ones with little fat - so we can save money and eat higherfat too!

I personally opt for lower fat meats when possible and also eat lots of fish and chicken. It is clearly a matter of preference as the other posters have said. Just don't shortchange your fat intake ... be sure you get it with other sources of food.
