Default I am extending induction-15 day update

Well it has been 15 days since I started Atkins. I am down 11.5 lbs and feel much thinner. I do need to get my measurements today but I feel I have lost inches. My clothes are loose. I am having an easy time of this and am no longer hungry. I want to lose 68.5 more pounds. I will be staying on induction for a while. I have a cruise coming in May and want to be svelte by then. I quit smoking last year and gained 20 lbs I did not need, however, after 21 days I had it licked after smoking 33 years, now when I have a craving I tell myself I am not a smoker. When I want something "bad" to eat I tell myself I am not fat. Seems to be working. Wish me luck, wish me success as I do for all of you.

do you think you will lose more by staying on induction?

not the case hun, i (and many others) lost more weight on OWL, i also learnt which foods my body could and couldnt handle...

that would be good for your cruise eh? knowing what to eat & NOT gain weight?

Your decision of course.

hi
Congratulations on your loss so far

As Emma said, staying on induction does not guarantee quicker weightloss than moving to OWL, but if you are moving on up the carb ladder you need to introduce new foods in the order stated in DANDR
Quote:
Most people find it best to add back foods in a certain orderwhat I call the Carbohydrate Ladder (see below).
Note that few people will be able to add back all these food groups in OWL. Those on the second half of the list tend to rank higher on the glycemic index and are more commonly introduced in Pre-Maintenance. Following this order tends to minimize blood-sugar surges that could reactivate cravings.

CARBOHYDRATE LADDER
1. More salad and other vegetables on the acceptable foods list
2. Fresh cheeses (as well as more aged cheese)
3. Seeds and nuts
4. Berries
5. Wine and other spirits low in carbs
6. Legumes
7. Fruits other than berries and melons
8. Starchy vegetables
9. Whole grains
So peanut butter is allowed when you reach the legume rung

Additionally by climbing the rungs of OWL now and learning how your body reacts to the different foods it will mean that if you have reached say the legumes rung by the time you go on your cruise you will be able to more easily stay on-plan and maybe even continue losing weight while on holiday and be eating yogurt, nuts, berries, wine and peanut butter!!!

The book DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) is a great read and gives you a terrific understanding of the whole programme and its various phases. Knowing how and why this way of eating works is fundamental to success. The edition this board goes by is the 2002 one. It was the last one written by Dr A entirely, before his death.

I know how you feel. Tomorrow is day 15 for me and I have lost 6.5 pounds, which is great, but I guess I expected more. Metabolic resistance stinks . At least we lost some weight, it's a good start, right? It must be tough with hubbie loosing so fast but you're right about men loosing faster. I'm also wondering about extended induction vs. OWL. Emma says she lost more on OWL so I guess I need to do a little research. Good luck with your ongoing weight loss.

You can extend induction for the time of your choice, as long as you leave enough time to go through the OWL (ongoing weight loss) rungs and find your critical carb level for losing/maintaining (CCLL and CCLM).

Extended induction is not an Atkins phase though. It's just a prolonging of induction, with all the same dietary rules and limitations.

It's a good idea, unless you are extremely metabolically resistent to weight loss, to move to OWL fairly quickly. Many people lose even faster on OWL, particularly on rung 1, which is more veggies.
