Default Sticking with it really pays off!

I've been reading and reading the boards alot, even though I haven't started a topic myself on the induction board. I usually post replies to others' posts and get inspiration from reading all of the successes here and lending and receiving support.

But I had to share a little of my experience on an extended induction in a new post. I've been "dancing" all around the scale since finishing bootcamp 3 weeks ago, and figuring out what my body can handle and what to stay away from. During bootcamp I went from 162 lbs to 152.5 lbs by eating only whole foods and leaving out all processed bars and other items like shakes etc.

After bootcamp I started eating chicken wings alot, and that was the first discovery of a type of food that for me stalls me, that had to be axed. I saw a big improvement after dropping those from the diet. And now I know I have to stay away from low carb bars as treats. But I also discovered that I really need to keep my veggie intake up, as well as my water. I also gave up coffee just over a week ago, and I have the most incredible energy levels now - and I did it quite painlessly with only one day of headaches. A total shock and surprise for me.

Anyhow, for the past 3 weeks there has been no loss on the scale - it's been jumping all around the same number - 153, 154, 155 lbs. So I examined and my food diary (which I post almost daily on the Journal and Weigh In forum below). I've stuck to eating the right way knowing that at some point the weight would come off, if I was just patient and had enough faith that my body would follow along, and then this morning - a big woosh! I'm down 3 lbs to 151.

I've had to really let go of the whole "diet" philosophy that I have been on with many other "diets" as opposed to a way of living healthy and feeding my body what it needs and not what it wants. I, like many others, am somewhat of a slave to the scale, weighing myself several times a day (I know :no bad me!). I'm learning slowly and steadily to let go of that obsession and to realize that this weight will come off with a commitment to myself to follow the guidelines set out by Dr.A.

I've worked hard to keep my spirits up throughout these 3 weeks, when I have had those voices in the back of my head trying to convince me that "Yeah, you'll really never be able to drop any more weight. Why don't you just go back to the old way of eating, enjoy yourself and not care about how you look - what's the use anyway?" But I used alot of positive self talk to get me out of that mindset and pushed through some tough times where I really wanted to cheat. And I am so happy that I did.

I feel so much healthier and happier!

Atkins has been a physical journey for me, but even more so, it's been an emotional journey. I've learned SO much about myself and my relationship with food over the last year that it astounds me!

This has been my philosophy all this last year, and it's made my life pretty much stress-free when it comes to my weight loss...and by golly, here I am over 40 pounds thinner!

There are difficult times, when your body has decided to stand still for a while..and all you can do is take stock of what you are eating, and how much you're exercising, make changes if need be, and keep on plugging along....having faith, and being patient.

Thanks for posting this...you are an inspiration to others, and paying it forward is one of the most generous things a person can do here at ADBB!
Way to go! :joy

I wish I would of read your post before I had chicken wings for supper, I am starting my third week of induction..I have to get on the scales tomorrow to see how much weight I have lost, but I know my clothes all ready aren't as snug..But I will stay away from the wings, they aren't worth stalling my weight loss, thanks for your post... :dancing

Hi Debi,

The chicken wings made me stall (and I think gain a bit too), but they may have absolutely no effect on you. That's the great thing about keeping track of what you eat and examining the effect of different foods yourself. I know a lot of people enjoy them with no adverse effects. Experiment and use each experience as a learning experience. :yes

Thanks Pamela. I usually take pics on a Sunday, but don't feel like it right now - just got home from shopping, so I'm too tired.

Yes Moochiecat, this is such a learning experience isn't it? I think that is one of the most liberating thing of this whole journey. Learning more about myself and seeing that I indeed have control over my weight and health.

Thanks Miss Seaneen for your positive feedback. :wave

Thank´s a lot for posting your thoughts.

I have to lose just some pounds and I think that´s more difficult than losing a lot ..... the course is slow .... that happens to me and it´s hard .... I must be patient as you are! :nod :hug
