| Momma, there is no typical. You will probably want to make sure you are losing but losing on induction won't necessarily be any faster than losing on OWL. For some people, they find they do better on OWL. Sometimes they stall on Extended induction and actually pick up the pace by adding more veggies and moving up the rungs. If you are happy in Induction then stay there and try it. You have nothing to lose. If it doesn't seem to be cutting it, or if you get bored, don't be afraid to move up the rungs. A number of people have said they feel they would have succeeded better had they moved up the rungs earlier. One thing for sure--you will not continue to lose at the pace you lost in the first two weeks no matter which way you approach it. But you will lose. |

| Extended Induction isn't in DANDR, if I remember right. Don't be afraid of OWL. Many people find that they can break a stall, or even lose faster on OWL. The key to keeping weight off is moving through all 3 stages of Atkins. As far as weight loss, you must be patient. It took time for all of us to get chubby, it will take time to lose it. Hey, as long as I am not gaining, I am happy! Are you losing inches? How do your clothes fit? I have only lost one pound in two weeks, but my pants are getting so baggy!! You will be shrinking before you know it! |

| Extended Induction is in DANDR 2002 - I was more curious of other peoples experience staying on extended induction and what rate they were loosing at vs moving into OWL. I'm not afraid of OWL - I'm just comfortable in induction.

I did have a lot of weight to lose and stayed on induction till I had lost 100 pounds. But towards the end of this period of time I did find my losses had slowed to only a couple of pounds a month. Moving to OWL speeded things up for me. Keep referring to the 4 questions in DANDR (chapter 13) to see if it is time for you to move on. Dr Atkins did tell us that we should aim to lose the last 5-10 pounds in premaintenance, so we do need several months on OWL to see if any foods affect us badly and to find our CCLL before then.

| I have been in "extended induction" for the past two weeks and have netted a 3 pound loss in that time -- nothing like the 16 pounds gone in the first two weeks on a similar menu! For the record, I'm moving on to OWL. If I see an even slower weight loss over the next month, I may add 2-3 days a week where I eat an Induction-level menu. I suppose the whole point to OWL is to test different strategies, huh?

| I guess what I meant about Extended Induction was that it isn't really a 'phase' of the plan (at least not in my opinion) and that weight loss is different for everyone. Sorry if I upset anyone. |

| I have lost 20lbs in 27 days. That includes doing a few 45 minute walks during the week. I lost 4lbs per week after the initial 14 days of induction. I plan on staying on extended induction until 10lbs before my goal weight. Hope that helps.

| I have been on induction since June 3rd... I like the food and am not bored but my weight loss definitely slowed way down after the first 2 weeks. I actually gained 7-8 pounds between week 3 and 4 (Water and TOM I think since I was cheat free) but now am down a total of 23 pounds in 5 weeks. I am losing a couple of pounds a week. I think if you like induction and are comfortable staying there, then you should do it. When it becomes apparent that you are either bored or stalled then I would consider moving up a rung. Everyone is different and you wont know what your body will do until you try it
