Default advice needed for us newbies...anyone out there who...

Ok - so it seems like there's a lot of posts from us newbies (I'm TOTALLY one of them) who've only been doing atkins now for about a week - and there's a lot of us who seem to be frustrated (myself included) that we are doing exactly what induction wants us to do but we're not seeing the scale move.

I myself am trying to stay as positive as possible as I know I FEEL physically better having all that sugar and junk out of my system - but at the same time - I totally get why everyone who's not seeing results is frustrated, because I'm right there with them.

I also know, personally, my issue today (and for the next week) is that TOM is here and that always messes with my weight!

My question is - for all you guys out there who've been on the plan for a while now and have lost a good amount of weight - PLEASE - if anyone out there had these same issues of not losing ANYTHING during induction - I know I'd personally feel better to know that other people had the same issue but then DID start seeing the numbers come down after a few weeks or even the first month?

I'd realllly like to hear from those of you who didn't lose anything for the first few weeks but then really started to see those pounds come off.
There are others who've lost like 10 pounds the first week, which is really cool - but I know there's gotta be some of you out there who didn't - but stuck with it - and DID see those pounds go away.

I know everybody is different - but I think it would really help to hear from those who dealt with this during induction.

Thanks!!!!!

I am not trying to be harsh but....... RELAX IT HAS ONLY BEEN A WEEK!!!!!!!!!! I think I lost like 2 pounds my first week, and its been about four a week ever since. As long as you are following the rules, drinking water and exercising you will be fine. You will be a buff bride! Good luck and Happy New Year!

I just finished my first two weeks of Induction. I lost 7 pounds total. But, more important is, I lots a total of 6.5 inches! Be sure you take your measurments. They are a great way to realize you are really losing. And, as Dr A says, when those numbers go down you KNOW you are losing fat.

I also advise patients, I have been on this board for more years than I care to admit and there are tons of folks who didn't lose anything during induction, but lost inches, dress sizes and their sweet cravings.

If you follow the rules for the first 2 weeks of induction, you will lose at about 10 percent of what you want to lose totally. So if you want to lose 25 pounds you'll lose about 2.5 pounds, if you want to lose 100, you'll lose 10 pounds. It doesn't sound like a lot, but then you should drop another half to 2 pounds a week.
Saying that, our bodies are all different and we all lose differently.
Give it a try.
Follow induction to the letter, drink your water, take your supplements and start your exercises. Measure yourself and stay off the scales. In 2 weeks report back

I agree with the others take your measurements. I did not lose hardly anything and was getting discouraged. I took my measurements and had lost 11 inches in those first 2 weeks. I am now up to 20 inches lost. To me that tape measure is more important.

I am not a pro but have been at it a while. Can you post your menu? There are several times I have seen people having to much cheese (which can cause you to stall) or one to many diet drinks or they think atkins bars and shakes are ok on induction but those are the exact things tripping them up. You also want to make sure you are having the required daily veggies. That's a huge must as well as enough fat.

I read your food history, and you might want to put it on fitday. It looks to me like you might not be getting enough calories and fat. Also, you don't mention any beverages of any kind. Caffeine can disrupt many people. How about gum or breath mints? Track everything you put in your mouth (even the water, water amounts are very important), and get back to us. Good luck,

T. J.

I personally lost about 5# but lost quite a few inches. Take your measurements please. Relax & stay off the scale. Dr. A does suggest not weighing until after the 2 weeks of Induction.

Don't give up!!

Default Re: advice needed for us newbies...anyone out there who...

I've been at it this time for about 6 weeks and I've lost 24 lbs in those six weeks I think.

So that's only about four lbs a week on average. you'll have weeks where you drop like 8 lbs and then only 1 or maybe even none for the next week or week and a half.

Don't worry.

The best thing you can do is:

1. Follow the eating rules.
2. Make sure you take a good mutli-vitamin
3. Add some psylium husks (keep you going if you know what I mean).
4. Get some exercise.

The last one is very important. It sounds awful, but you don't have to go run a marathon or anything. Just get out and do like 20 to 30 minutes of cardio a day. Just enough to break a good sweat. You'd be surprised how many lbs will come off on a consistent basis if you just go and break a sweat every day. I've come back from a 1.5 mile run and been lighter than when I started the day.

Good luck and stick to it. It starts getting easy to refuse all that junky food after about 3 weeks on the program.
