Smile Ideas on how to include more green induction friendly veggies.

I am big on fresh foods (was a vegeterian for a long time a few years ago too) but was never really into leafy greens and choose not to be familiar with many of them. I'm in week 2 of induction and it's working but I need more variety...any ideas? My carbs are about 10% net carbs from some cheese, eggs, veggies, etc.., 45% fat, 40% protein...more protein then fat sometimes. Any advice? I lost 9 pounds the first week. I plan to stay on induction until the end of may and then move to OWL.

PS..I have lots to lose...I'm turning 25 in less then month, started at 249.5, am @ 240 now...goal is 145.

Default Re: Ideas on how to include more green induction friendly veggies.

have you been to FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal You can type the word green in the search box, choose an interesting veggie (quite a lot of induction-friendly choices are there!)

here's a few from the hundreds listed:
Olives, green
Greens, cooked
Beet greens, raw

Turnip greens, raw
Chicory greens, raw
Cabbage, green, raw
Poke greens, cooked
Mustard greens, raw
Beet greens, cooked
Tomatoes, green, raw
Turnip greens, cooked
Dandelion greens, raw
Peppers, green, cooked

Cabbage, green, cooked
Tomato, green, pickled
Mustard greens, cooked
Mixed salad greens, raw
Tomatoes, green, cooked
Green plantains, boiled
Lettuce, green leaf, raw
Onions, young green, raw
Dandelion greens, cooked
Pepper, sweet, green, raw
Beans, string, green, raw
Onion, young green, cooked
Squash, summer, green, raw
Greens, cooked,
Beans, string, green, cooked
Peppers, chili, green, canned
Beans, string, green, pickled
Peppers, hot chili, green, raw
Peppers, sweet, green, sauteed
Onions, young green, tops only
Beans, green string, with onions
Turnip greens with roots, cooked
Turnip greens, frozen, unprepared
Turnip greens, cooked, from fresh

Might I suggest adding more meat and oils/fats to your dishes, to lower the percent carbs, without lowering veggies eaten.

Just some ideas for variety:

add parsley or cilantro to your salads
make soup by pureeing the veggies - works for any veggies then add cream in the end
sautee veggies until soft and stick them in food processor and mix in with ground beef and make patties out of the mixture.
green beans sauteed with garlic and olive oil are absolutely delicious!

those are just a few examples - check out linda's website - there are so many variations and so much you can do for variety. Hope this helps.

During Induction, the percentages you should be aiming for are 65% fat, 5% carbohydrates, 30% protein. Dr. Atkins wrote that excess protein will be converted into glucose, so overdoing it will work against your weight loss efforts.
