| My dear Pinkfeathers...WHY WHY WHY would you even want to go there??? One bite? One Cookie? I don't know about you, but only ONE? Seriously, it is too early to start messing around with little cheats. That will bring you one step closer to another, and another, and.....? Stay strong, stay on track, and play with the cookies when you get to the rung on OWL. (Just my opinion.) ~Mary |

| Hi Mary, I don't want to have a cookie, I was just wondering IF I had one, what would happen. |

| I am not an expert, but I think probably nothing will happen. But for me, I would not have the one cookie, because I am all or nothing, and a little cheat for me, would keep on going, a little here, a little there...? Who knows where it would take me. Probably a place I do not want to go to. |

Anyway, eating 50 net carbs above your normal carb level might kick you out of ketosis. And since the carbs are coming from sugar, you would get a big insulin spike (bigger than if you had been on a high-carb diet). Even if you don't gain any weight, cheating with some cookies now and then will mess up your metabolism. Megs explained this in more detail here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-one-bite.html (Before you take that "one bite"....)

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | 50 carbs would send me out of ketosis and it would take me 7 days to get back.

| I don't know about that. It would knock me out of ketosis for 1 day max. It's not really that big of a deal.... IF you can keep it to one cookie and it doesn't start a binge, or a series of cheats, etc. |

| I understand where you're coming from, but we're all built differently. When you're following a WOE constructed so meticulously as Atkins (DANDR), then it is even more important to stick as closely to it as possible. Not only that, but that one cookie could trigger a cephalic response and then we're back at square one; which may not occur for many months or years. No time to backslide, because every day we're one step closer to our goal. Cheating only delays that. |

| Most of us got here because our self control stinks. One for me always leads to another, and another. I know you're just wondering, but don't be tempted to find out. That kind of thinking is what has gotten most of us back to gaining. Good luck. |

Now...that said..and while I believe that...in the big scheme of things, one bite of cookie is not the end of the world. How you continue after that is up to you. |
