| on induction we are allowed 2 cups of salad vegetables and 1 cup of vegetables off the "other" list -- I measure everything before I cook it (even if it's frozen) so I know how much I am actually eating. Some items I use a scale and others I use the measuring cup. You'll be surprised when you start measuring that you are either over eating or under eating your vegetables. Since most of your carbs come from the veggies you need to know how many you are actually eating. Once you move on to OWL Rung 1 and add another 5 net carbs of veggies that's also when you need to know how much you are eating. Good luck.

| I used to doing early Atkins. I had no vision for estimating. Now, after being on Atkins for years, I seldom measure. My theory is that many of us became fat from taking a little of this and a little of that without a true picture of how much we were eating. I need to keep myself honest.

| I weigh my veggies...much more accurate that way. I do measure blueberries in a measuring cup...they are little and round and fit in the cup nicely. Got a digital food scale with the TARE feature a while back...best investment I made. Many times I was underestimating.

I measure and weigh and do so before cooking as the book states. If you guess you ill undoubtedly eat more or less than what you are supposed to. Just go by the guidelines and you'll do fine.

| I answered 'No' in your poll, but that's not the whole answer. I do not use "cups" to measure my veggies. Never have. I use a food scale and weigh them, then calculate carb count that way. It's by far and away more accurate for carb counts than a "cups" measurement, & I can actually eat more veggies.

| Never. However, what I usually do is take out how much I want, then cut in about half since a cup really is not much with all of the air between the "loosely packed" leaves figured in. I then visualize whether the remaining pile would fit into a cup.

I can't answer your question on brocoli because I hate cooked vegetables (as a rule - exceptions are there but few) and normally eat it raw. A kitchen scale costs under 10 bucks, though and it helps to have it around for times like this. |
