Default Re: So discouraged - been crying - not losing on Atkins.

Pink, you have had tons of good advice but here is the bottom line. Right now you know Atkins can work for you because you did lose on Induction.

But, with the sweeteners- both too much and the wrong kind, nuts, caffeine (I sympathize and have not yet fully given up my java), not enough water, not measuring accurately, blahblahblah it is clear that the diet isn't failing you. You just haven't done it correctly yet so you can't really say it isn't working.

How about thinking all this out and giving it a couple of weeks done correctly and see what happens. Measure now, stay off the scale, and focus on doing this WOE right. I bet the results will surprise you. (Hug) I also think you deserve a whoosh soon.

I read and re-read all of your posts. I'm so exhausted mentally and even physically. In fact, today, I weighed even 4 lbs MORE than yesterday.

I would go over my menu but too tired to right now. Maybe tomorrow.

I found out today I have Candida overgrowth (yeast). Don't know how much that has stalled me but at least it tells me something.

Thanks again to all.

Remember ... a weight bounce can be related to so many things.

Take a deep breath ... tomorrow ... post your menu (with net carbs) and we'll take another look at it.

Why is it a "no-no" for life?

Dr. Atkins wrote:

"You must determine which artificial sweeteners agree with you, but the following are allowed: sucralose (marketed at Splenda®), saccharin, cyclamate, acesulfame-K. ... Saccharin has been extensively studied, and harmful effects were produced in the lab when fed to rats only in extremely high doses. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has removed saccharin from its list of carcinogens, basing its decision upon a thorough review of the medical literature and the National Institute of Science's statement that there is "no clear association between saccharin and human cancer." It can be safely consumed in moderation, meaning no more than three packets a day. Saccharin is marketed as Sweet 'N Low®. We discourage the use of aspartame (marketed as NutraSweet' and Equal®). ... My preference, however, is sucralose (Splenda®), the only sweetener made from sugar. Sucralose is safe, noncaloric and does not raise blood sugar."

Ch. 11
J,

The Reagan Administration forced through the passing of of Nutrasweet, Aspartame, Sweet n' Low, etc., without regard to the health of the American public. These formulations are illegal in many parts of Europe, and it has been medically proven that they basically turn your cellular material into formaldehyde.

So do what you want, but that's why I stay away from it. While it may not cause cancer according to the U.S. literature, it sure made a difference in my father's memory problems, when he was consuming coffee with 3 packets of Equal per day. He'd ask the same questions over and over. And he wasn't senile. Then he went on to Splenda and Stevia and returned to normal.

Take from it what you will.

SMKelly,

I was only quoting Dr. Atkins. That's all.

I have no agenda on sweeteners ... I barely use Splenda.

That you choose to avoid Nutrasweet, Aspartame, Sweet n' Low, etc. is your choice ... you just can't say that Dr. Atkins made them a "no no for life".

Hello again all.

I am going to post what I've eaten the last day to get feedback. I'm as of 2 days ago cutting out all cheese and dairy due to Candida (yeast) which I tested positive for. (Quite positive!)

Day before yesterday:

B - 2 eggs fried in butter (1 carb), 1 coffee with non-dairy cream (1)

L - 2 pure salmon burgers (Salmon that is pressed into a patty, no preservatives) and mayo 1 T. (0 carbs), coffee with non dairy creamer (1 carb)

D - 3 deviled eggs (2 carbs), 1 cup brocolli (4 carbs) in butter & 1/2 can kippers (0)

Walked 45 minutes

I know I didn't have enough veggies this day... I didn't have groceries. Since then I have bought new groceries.

Yesterday:

B - McDonald's 2 McDouble's, just the beef. (0 carbs)

L - Small Probiotics yougurt (I got this from a naturopathic doctor for my yeast overgrowth in my system... 10 carbs)

D - 2 chicken sausages (1 carb) and spinach salad, 1 t. dressing (1 carb), 1 cup spinach and 1 hard boiled egg (3 carbs)

( I under ate on veggies again yesterday due to the probiotic yougurt. I think I'll need to do that every day until the course is done. Or what else are my options?)

No exersize

Thank you for any feedback.

>>non-dairy cream>>

Ick. Did you read the list of ingredients? This frankenfood isn't really Atkins friendly. Use real cream!

>>mayo 1 T. (0 carbs>>

Mayonnaise has carbs ... the ingredients have carbs. The USDA has 1 Tbs of mayonnaise at 0.54 net carbs.

>>1 cup brocolli (4 carbs)>>

You should count NET carbs.

You also don't mention how much WATER you're drinking. This is important ... critical even, to weight loss.

Ok ... you know you're not eating enough vegetables.

You're also not eating very much food ... I suspect you're under both in net carbs and in calories.

Try for 20 net carbs (not including the yogurt) and most of those net carbs from Induction vegetables (don't limit yourself to cups) ... and drink the 90 ounces of water you need. Try this for two weeks and I bet you'll see results.

Will you do that for yourself?

Hi Atkinsgal,

You mentioned to use real cream. Because of Candida it says cut out any dairy products so I'm doing faux-cream in the meantime.

Frankenfoods is not allowed? Yikes.

Oh yes, water! I forgot to list. Thanks for the reminder. I had 3 herbal teas, 5 large glasses of water. I think this is enough... ?

Yes, I need to increase my veggie carbs. I will do that. Thank you, Atkinsgal, for your 'tough love.' I do need to work harder on that. And water, too.

Much appreciated!

I did a cleanse once for yeast and it really helped. I had to cut out mushrooms vinegar and cheese for a bit while I was doing it too I think, it was a long time ago. I did loose weight once I was rid of the yeast. So yeast can be a huge deal, and getting rid of it can mean altering what you can eat for a bit. I was checking out the yeast board today and they have some links to antiyeast diets. You might want to pop over and see if you need cut out certain foods for a bit while taking something to get rid of the yeast.

If you can't use cream, then drink it black. Seriously, fake cream will ruin your arteries! There's most likely trans-fats in it ... there's certainly sugar. It's disgusting stuff. And the sugar in it means you shouldn't be having it because of the Candida.

So there's no good reason to have it.
