Default Scared to eat high-fat foods

I've never joined any group for dieting but talking seems to be helping everyone...
I'm so scared to eat high fat foods. I know the principle is, just dont eat more calories than you burn off in day, and I know I'm not, but have people had better results when they eat more fat per calorie?

My method....any advice ?
I started watching what I was eating and exercizing in the weeks before Thanksgiving, lost almost 10 pounds, only to gain in back by making 5 batches of cookies, an orange-chocolate cheesecake and a new cake recipe to give away to family and others as a treat. Guess who ate most of the cookies that weekend?
So on Thursday, December 4th I started induction and have lost about 5 lbs, a few of which might have come off since my T-day binge.
I'm 23, 208 lbs, 5'8. The skinniest I remember being was 170 about 5 years ago. I still have my favorite jeans from back then, and I want so badly to wear them again.
I excercise (weight-training about 40 min then cardio 30 minutes) 3-4 times a week. I have yet to break induction (I tried before but am addicted so badly to bread and pasta) except for 2 cashews and a macadamia. No coffee. Tea every other day. One diet soda per day then water the rest of the time.
I really just want to see the weight melt off. Am I being too strict or not strict enough? I can already see a big difference in my gut (or should a say a smaller change, lol, it doesn't make itself as comfy in my lap)

Advice?
Beth

Beth, I'd watch the non-water liquids and make sure you have a list of the allowed foods (from the FAQs) and don't eat anything not on it.

It's always easier to start strict and ease up later than try to tighten up lighter.

Have you read the book. It really explains why we need the fat in our diet and the fat to run this program we are on. Fat is the "main tool" . Eggs have a lot of fat, and if you eat 'good fats' like olive oil, butter, avocodoes, that might help you

Beth, I'm going out on a limb here and also tell you that "you have to eat fat to lose fat". It's a fact on this WOE. 65% of your daily intake of food should be "fat". (Then 30% protein and 5% carbs.) You really should be following this guideline.

Induction is fairly strict and you should only be eating foods from the Foods List during that phase.

Drink your correct amount of water - 64 oz. PLUS 8 oz. for every 25 lbs. you have to lose.

Take your vitamins/supplements every day.

Exercise as often as you can.

Use FitDay to monitor what you are eating if you want to keep up with it from day to day.

Lastly, stay away from those cookies. LOL

You can do it. Keep your PMA up and just go for it. We're here if you have any more questions. Good luck!

in fact for me personally, I find that I lose better when I eat more fat, like 70%
I know it is scary, after being told for so many years that fat is so bad for us. But I say give it a try..try it for 6 months, see if you don't lose weight and lower your cholestrol..I almost guarantee that you will.
But if you don't after 6 months you can go back to a low calorie low fat diet.
But I am guessing it won't really take 6 months
2 weeks and you will probably hooked on the new engery and weight loss.

A diet high in fat is okay as long as you are on the low carb end of the spectrum. Its the high fat, high carb diet that gets us American's into trouble. On Atkins your body is using your fat for energy, cause you don't have a high supply of glucose or anything else, like alcohol. Ketosis is proof of this. As you move through the stages of OWL and into maintenence you will change your ratios of fat/protein/carbohydrate. Like someone else here said, you need fat to burn fat. And remember you don't have to gorge on cheese and bacon. A dollop of butter, oil, a hunk of cheese all adds appropriate fats to a meal.
