Default Hi, I am going on Atkins in 1 week and 2 days!!

Hi, Let me tell you about myself.
My name is Kelly and I am a happily married stay at home mom of a beautiful 2 year old son

I was 230 lbs when I got married 4 years ago, and I gained a lot of weight when I quit smoking and went up to 295 lbs.

Well, then I got pregnant and gained another 40 lbs!

Now I am 335 lbs and I NEED to lose weight desperately!

I am tired and have very low energy (I sit on the computer all day)

I have been a Yo-Yo dieter for years and just kept gaining anf gaining and now my health seems to be at risk as once in awhile (I'd say like once every few weeks) I get heart palpitations, but when I had everything checked by my family Dr, my cholesterol, and blood pressure are at a VERY healthy level.

I decided to go on SLimfast, but as some of you know, it tastes awful and you feel hungry all of the time, not to mention it makes my stomach hurt and I feel nausea after I drink them.

Well, my husband came home from work the other day and told me someone at his work has heart problems, so his dr put him on a low cholestrol diet and he has been eating 5 cheeseburgers without the bun and lost 35 lbs within 2 months!

I immediately became interested in this diet.

So I did some intense research (still reading up on it) on the Atkind diet.
My husband and I both watched a TV show about a group of people on Dateline that were trying to lose weight for their high school reunion, and the story that got me inspired was the guy on Atkins that lost 108 lbs in 10 months.

I don't have the book, but I found millions of websites with info on this diet and I know all about the 4 phases, the ketosis, the water (that will be the killer for me), and I found several websites with food carb charts.

My husband also wants to start this diet with me.

He gets paid on the 17th and we are going Atkins shopping!!

I can not even begin to tell you how excited I feel about starting this change of life!!

I have NEVER been excited about any diet, and I never wanted to make a permanent change in my eating for life until I read all about Atkins and this forum, so far EVERY post I read has been successful!!

Congrats to each and every one of you!

My success story will be here soon

A question, is diet soda bad? It's all I drink (besides some water, yeah I know I'll have to drown myself in it)

Another question, can this diet cause any bad side affects if you follow it correctly?

I have many small goals, my first goal is to go down to under 300 lbs.
My ultimate goal is to go down to 170 lbs.

I went to that website and had it make a model for me and WOW. If I looked as good as that model, I wouldn't be worrying about my weight. It was fun to try though.

Best of luck to you on this new WOE!

Glad ya'll joined!!! I loved the "Make your own model site". What a trip! I just went in and put my before weight, my current weight and my goal weight....it gave me shivers to see what the differences are already.

Atkins is actually fairly easy for me and even my husband has decided to join me after my success so far. Jump right in and get started as soon as you can....we're all waiting for more success stories

ONE BIG TIP: Get the KETOSTIX from the pharmacists (not the ones on the shelf..they're too expensive and don't work as well) and use them. They are the best reinforcement that you're doing the diet right when you stall on weight loss and you will stall if they keep turning pink then you're doing the diet right....even if you're not losing weight at the moment.

Well, I disagree with the ketostix, they never turned for me and I lost 70 pounds.

The one thing you can do is buy Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and read it cover-to-cover. That is the definitive source of information for this diet. Then read the FAQ's on this site because we cover some things not found or glossed over in the book like the dangers of sugar-alcohols.

The absolute best thing to drink on this diet is WATER, water, water. Stay away from anything labeled "diet" or "lo-carb" and stick to natural foods for the first couple weeks.
Most of the "bad" side effects are only the first couple days, and it can get severe in some people. Long-term there isn't enough known but most people who test (including me) have lowered their cholesteral and improved most numbers. BUT...check with your Dr. first anyways no matter what your condition is.
