Default Small success... BIG satisfaction

I'm absolutely terrible sometimes about eating out. It's so hard for me not to cave in and have something just full of carbs that I know I'm not supposed to have, even if it's just a few bites. And I always feel guilty.

Today I went with my family to move my nephew into his college dorm ( I can't believe he's a college freshman already, but that's another story... ). As family members we were given tickets to have a free meal at our choice of several places on the campus and it flashed through my mind that I should "have something good... shouldn't waste a free meal".. LOL.

I had a chefs salad with ham, boiled egg, chopped tomato.... a little 2 oz. bag of cheddar cheese cubes... and a bottle of water. That's what I ate while everybody else was eating pizza and subs and hot chocolate chip cookies, and I was soooo proud of myself!

And on top of that I probably walked 5 miles on campus today! It probably sounds silly to a lot of people, but today was a huge success for me.

Good for you! It is the small things that make me feel most proud of myself, too! Like saying no to chips and salsa at Mi Torro (Mexican food) and not having a slice or even a bite of Grandma's homemade chocolate cake. Keep up the good work!

That's great, Cristy. I know EXACTLY the feeling you mean. When I eat out, I always feel like I should get whatever I like most -- why "waste" a costly meal on something I'll only half enjoy? That, of course, was before I started Atkins. I'm trying hard to change that mindset. It's only day 6 -- haven't eaten out yet -- but I do have my son's birthday tomorrow (with cupcakes!) to contend with!

Keep up the great will-power!

Adena

Yes!! That's exactly the thinking I used to have too!! LOL !

Have a great time at the birthday party tomorrow and stay away from the cupcakes. Check out the recipe for the mock danish and have that for your treat. You won't even miss the cake!

Keep up the great work!

it is so hard to not become complacent when you eat out!!! I understand that and still have trouble with the fact the first thing on the table is usually warm bread...I can literally consume an entire basket and still eat dinner ....bread is one of my total downfalls in life and something I have to avoid completely I am afraid...I dont ask for it to be taken away (unless I am eating alone) because there are usually others at the table that will eat enjoy it and not have a problem with it it ..but I do try to focus only on what I really love to eat and try to remind myself I can have whatever I really truely want off the menu!!!! We all can ...we can have wonderful food prepared for us and still loose and keep wt off!!!

you always have time in life reflect on the whole point doing this ..there is no such thing as too hungry to make a good choice...I find if I am "starved" I will drink the glass of water and then look at the menu it takes the edge off and you can relax and peruse all you want picking and choosing...

.you did a great job and will continue to ...I have no doubt you are going to be a complete success ..congratulations on this one
