Default Alternating with other diets

What do you guys think of alternating strict Atkins with strict something-else (low fat, low cal, fruit only, vegetable only, etc). Like 4 weeks of each alternating. Atkins does mention this in the book as giving a "jump start" for when one re-starts Atkins. For me, it breaks up the monotony of no cars...i MISS my freekin fruits!!!!
Any body else done this???

You may want to post this question on ADBB's sisterboard www.lowcarbbulletinboard.com. Your account wont carry over there..you'll need to recreate it..This board is more for Atkins by the book..the other is for low carb in general..which is more what your question is directed too

Within maintenance mode, you can configure the diet as your body will tolerate. You are using the tools you learned in the previous phases, and are able to completely customize the diet as you see fit. I am not sure what you mean by fruits all day, but eating healthy to your standard. Really it is about continued sensitivity to the whites (refined sugars) and the rest is pretty much up to you and your body. Knowing that you can always get your blood glucose back under control easily. The maintenance phase is hardly no carbs... The only reason not to eat carbs in maintenance phase is because their nature (whites - and even then I know some maintenance phase people who eat candy bars, but do it in moderation now) or because you no longer want to (my case).

Allowing your blood glucose to get out of control again by playing diet roulette to me just seems like reason to regain. Is the Krispy Kreme or Regular soda diet really that attractive? Everything else pretty much has a place at the low carb maintenance table.

if your body can handle it you can have fruit all day. what is your CCLM? exercise vigorously can increase it and you can then have more fruit if your body can handle it.

Dr Atkins metioned that breifly but not in maintenance. it was an old stall buster and it isn't in the 2002 DANDR.

When you switch your eating up like that you do two bad things one carbburning and fat burning use different chemicals so your body is frantically trying to keep up with your changing eating and youare reloading your triglycerides and glucogen stores on the carby eating making your health precarious at best. you also will be ineffeft a diabetic for the first few days of changing back to the carby eating and that is very dangerous and it is a silent accumulation of all the micro damage that does to diabetics over their life timethat causes the amputations and blindness when they get older.
study some medical studies on your idea before you test it on you.

Ktrinh, are you in Maintenance? Or have you just started Atkins? The reason I ask is cause if your in Maintenance the answers will be different than if you have just started. ((HUGS))

I have lost 30 lbs in only 7 weeks. I am goal weight so am now in maintenance. To be honest, my LDL have increased since being on atkins and that is why I want to alternate with vegetarian diet which made my cholesterol perfect.

Your LDL will go up and then go down, Dr A talks about it in his book. If your worried about your cholesterol, keep your sat fats at about 20 %, and you can do Atkins as a vegeterian, but not vegan. You need to eat protein so tofu, eggs, cheese, yogurt etc would be important to your diet. Being a vegertarian is complicated as your body needs a variety of foods to maintain health.

Guess what, LDL goes up in response to all weight loss plans not just Atkins but as the body realizes you aren't starving to death they will drop back down to what is normal for you at about the 6 month mark.

We have many Vegetarian Atkineers And their is a stickie in the FAQs about how to do Atkins as a vegetarian. things like Booca burgers and tofu during induction. Missy90 is a goalie and a vegetarian. If you PM her she can give you lotsd of info on how to do it.

Happy low carbing.
